    Last day of Paris

    We took it extra slow today. We didn't want to rush anything so we went on a good relaxing walk in the park with Thor, then we went to the city centre on a french dinner in a cosy little restaurant. We had onion soup for starters, followed by three cheese fondue, fois gras, french baquettes and ofcourse some wine rouge. And for dessert two flavours sorbet.🍧🍷👌 We had creme brulee earlier in the afternoon while stopping for a coffee, tho. And, we bought some macaroons to go 😊☕🍮 After that we went on a short walk by the river (it was really sunny!) and now our thoughts are already in Normandy 😆Meer informatie

    Honfleur

    Our lunch stop couldn't be better. Romantic little town by the sea, Honfleur. The sun was shining, seaguls were singing (ha, right) and we got the perfect spot for our table by the pier. The views were perfect! (we saw the raising bridge going up and down when sailboats came in to this small harbour and from distance we could see the big Pont de Normandie bridge)Meer informatie

    Caen, France

    This was our afternoon stop. The city of Caen has a lot of history from early medival times which is shown by the castle and ww2 memorial of heavy fighting that happened here can also be found. We had a coffee under the blue sky in the castle. We took a small walk around the main sights and then pushed on to the final destination of the day. 🏰🐕👑Meer informatie

    Omaha Beach

    Omaha beach is our pit stop and a perfect starting point for tomorrow as we will take a tour of D Day. We had a picnic on the beach, as the hotel (fortunately for us) restaurant just closed. We had the views you see in movies: miles long sandy beaches, horses riding by and you could hear only the sound of the ocean. Thor was estatic about the ocean and the sand, he just couldn't stop running around. The best of all - sunset was amazing! 😍 What an end to a very colorful day!Meer informatie

    D Day

    Off to a new day. And for start we visited a D Day monument, a museum and an american cemetary. You can still feel the presence of D Day in the air here. Amazing and heartbreaking at the same time.

    Coutance

    On our way down to Brittany we stopped at the top of the hill where a magnificant cathedral stands. You can see it kilometers away. A short stroll, a quick restock at the supermarket and we were off.

    Granville

    7 augustus 2016, Frankrijk ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

    Granville was our last stop before our next home exchange in Guer. We went to the lighthouse at the end of the cliff with views of the far away Brittany and the Mont Saint Michel bay. This red lighthouse is really pretty, but there are few more to see from there aswell. The view is really great, as you can see the ocean from every side of the hill and feel how small you are compared to the greatness of the ocean.

    You can still see the remains of nazi bunkers here and there. Some are now transformed into a military radar station and a lookout for the French army. You can also see the stranded boats in the bay when the tide comes. It's amazing how the sea gets so low and high, it amazes me every time.

    Granville really is a charming city (with a little busy roads, tho). Reminded me of Arcadia Bay from Life is Strange (for those who know the game) ☺    Meer informatie

    Home exchange, house #3

    What can we say but wow. We were greated with open arms by Thomas (son of Anna and Serge. Who are currently in our place in Ljubljana. Hi! Hope you have a great time there! :)) in this beautiful suburban style house. The kind of house you see in the movies and want to live in :). Garden for Thor is here and not just that nature is 3 meters away, so is everything else. Awesome! And thank you for the wine! :)Meer informatie

    Magic Foret de Broceliande

    The king Arthur and the knights of the round table once gathered here and the table they say still exist somewhere in the magic forest filled with faries goblins and other creatures alike. We visited this charming forest and the village by the lake which is called Pampoint. While walking through the village the sound of bagpipes emerged in the forest luring us in. We decided to explore the mystical sound and walked by the lake into the forest. The sound of bagpipes grew louder and louder. Thor stopped and stared. We slowly looked around the tree and there he was a man playing bagpipes in the middle of the forest. Wicked :) We then visited Château de Comper which is said to belong to wizard Merlin. :)Meer informatie

    Asterix & Obelix (historical site)

    Brittany, the home of Asterix and Obelix. That's right :) We went to see a historical site with all the stones Obelix used to carry with him. The site near Guer is actually pretty spectacular. The open air exhibition is well presented but sadly, as many other things in Brittany, lacks any english signs or explanations of what you are looking at. (Strange as a lot of UK visitors are present all around.) We took a walk around the site and Idefix (Thor) was quite happy to be in the woods.Meer informatie

    La Gacilly, artistic village

    We listened to Thomas's advice and took a tour around this artistic village. Little stone houses with colorful doors and windows are really charming! And the flowers- they are everywhere(in all of the villages around the country actually)-so pretty!

    The outdoor photo exhibition of famous photographers is so big, we were blown away! We didn't expect such large thing in a such a small village. Some of the photos are so big and beautiful, they're even exhibited on a house fascades. Amazing. Some of the others were put in a spiral labirinth under the trees. Magical.

    The whole exhibition is strategicaly set through the whole village, so you have the time to really feel the vibe(of people, streets and photos-some of them really left an impact) It actually takes quite a walk if you want to see the whole thing. It took us three hours!(with short coffee break) Time well spent! 👍    Meer informatie

    Guer village fest

    So after returning home we were greeted by a village fest in full swing. We had to take a look at the happening (it is just 2 minutes walk from the house after all). So the dinner plan went down in flames when we got there. We had to have local food - Gallette (a sausage in a crepes pancake), a farmer style kebab and some crepes for desert. (Don't mind we ate it for breakfast) 😋

    There was also dancing to a bagpipe music (we just missed the girl playing on harfe) and a local sport competition (sort of a bowling played with small flat round pieces). Interesting how tradition remains. There were also few stands with local cyder, beer and food products that ofcourse we had to buy 😉    Meer informatie

    Mont St Michel

    You can see from a distance that this is a magical village. But the closer you get, more and more people you meet. We had no idea what were we getting into. It gets to the point when you can't even move because so many people are there. It is an icon for sure and we are happy we saw Mont St. Michel. A unique place for sure.Meer informatie

    St. Malo and Dinard, port cities

    Sun, beach and burgers - that was our afternoon in Dinard. After bad attempt to visit St. Malo(no parking, unfortunately -because the city looks amazing from the outside and a lot of sailboats in the port) we decided to end our journey to the north in this town. We could see a lot of sailboats here aswell and a beautiful view on St. Malo while we drove by. Sea breeze, seaguls and (well deserved) coffee on a sandy beach was the right choice. We even discoved cute botique store that sells cans and patés of tuna/sardines, available also in cute gift boxes. Ofcourse we had to buy ourselves a little something 😊Meer informatie

    Auto musem

    So we learned there is a massive car museum just 15 minutes from the house. We had to see it. After the first hall we were already amazed by the collection but the halls kept on coming. This museum is huge! We were stunned by the selection. They have like 20 F1 cars in there alone. Epic.Meer informatie

    Rennes

    Rennes is just about 40km away from our house, so we went to see the old city centre and it's famous wooden houses. It's pretty big city(you can compare it to ljubljana). The wooden houses are lovely and the city center seemed quite busy, but we missed cafés by the river. Also we were quite suprised that most of the restaurants were closed(no service until 7pm). But that's just how the life works here in france.Meer informatie

    Week #2

    It's been two weeks on the road already! Wow!
    For me, Brittany is a house heaven(I love old stone fascades, as it really gives the charm to the village). I could walk around all day and just look at the houses😊 It really is a feast for the eyes, because all the properties are so neet with all the flowers upfront. Charming. We kinda fell for our adopted house here in Guer aswell. It's so peaceful and calm, but also located just 5min walking to the center of town. Maybe we shouldn't leave so soon..Meer informatie

    Damgan seashells beach

    We ditched the Damgan's 'must see' sandy beach when we saw 'No dogs allowed' sign and just few miles away discovered beach with hardly any people. And wait for this - all the sand was covered in seashells. I know, right? We chilled and sunbathed for few hours (Thor was the brave one as he was the only one who was swimming in the ocean) and even had a picnic there. Perfect.Meer informatie

    Vannes

    Vannes is a port town with little narrow streets, old wooden houses and a lot of cute petite butique stores. It reminded us a little of Piran. We loved it! 😍

    Pornic :)

    As sad as it is to leave Guer and Brittany behind it is time to move. This time into heart of France. On our way to Liglet we had a couple of stops. First was the little port town of Pornic. The name Pornic has a naughty meaning in slovene, so yeah, we had to stop😉 It was quite lovely actually (the weather helped) so we had a stroll around and a cup of cafe there before moving onward to Nantes. ⛵Meer informatie

    Nantes

    Nantes, famous for its Ile de machine - elephant 🐘 But that's not nearly all what this city has to offer. A bunch of cafes and pattiseries in the old city centre, which reminded us of Ljubljana (but a lot bigger), a castle and cathedral..to much for one day really. Maybe we'll return one day.     Home exchange, house #4

    We're in Liglet. Yup, exactly. We're in the middle of nowhere(actually we're in the centre of France), where you can hear nothing except crickets chirping, wind blowing through the leaves and seeing nothing but clear blue sky(with so many stars!) - bring it on comets!🌠

    We arrived just a few minutes before the sunset, and you can see it directly from the garden(Thanks Brit for putting up the chairs and all), and also the wine was waiting for us (Thanks Deb!) so there's that. House is very big and old(apparently has a very kinky history). I think we'll be just fine. 😉    Meer informatie
