Where the Heart is

  • Heathrow First Class lounge

    7 juin 2017, Angleterre ⋅ ⛅ 64 °F

Quiet, spacious, good free food, uncrowded, free drinks... this is what an airport lounge is suppose to be like. Oh, and security was a very civilized affair.

We had scones, little sandwiches, pasta salad and orange juice to eat. Perhaps a glass of bubbly later. We still have 3 hours before our flight is suppose to leave.

    ----

Still 2hours to departure. No idea what which gate yet. So it must be time for that glass of champagne.

  • We made it back to the USA

    7 juin 2017, États Unis ⋅ ⛅ 73 °F

Our plane got to Atlanta about 30 minutes early but the plane at the gate wouldn't leave. We ended sitting on the taxi way for an hour before we got to proceed to the gate. But we are here at Laurie's and John's, who are so welcoming.En savoir plus

  • Rain

The heavens opened up today with lightning and rain. One lightning strike happened with simultaneous thunder, very scary.

  • Final House Walkthrough

    22 juin 2017, États Unis ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

We were relieved that we both found the house both beautiful and very livable looking. We didn't take many photos as they just did not do it justice. We're looking forward to final closing Monday. Crossing our fingers that our stuff will arrive on Tuesday. But what the hey ... we have a mattress and 2 small cooking pots in the trailer. Also a very large refrigerator to fill and a GIANT washer for Gordon to start training.En savoir plus

  • Closing! The house is ours!

    26 juin 2017, États Unis ⋅ 🌧 77 °F

It is too anticlimatic, papers were signed, small talk exchanged, but no heavenly trumpets, no marching bands, not even a bottle of bubbly to be opened. Sigh....

And - no word on when the movers will arrive! We don't want to move into an empty house, we want our stuff and we want it now. Well, tomorrow would work. But alas, not knowing when is a real bummer.

So we went out to a steak house for some beer and food to drown our sorrows. And we might have had a few chocolate grahams when we got back. And Heather noticed some fresh Haagen Daz in the KOA freezer case.

A definite consolation prize was driving straight through the gate with our freshly bar-coded car. Don't worry. When you visit we can put you on a list to be admitted freely by our trusty and cheerful gatekeepers.

  • Where's Waldo? Or in our case: Joe

    27 juin 2017, États Unis ⋅ 🌧 75 °F

Joe, the truck driver finally called us. He thinks that he can be here Friday morning, but he doesn't know if there will be people to be unload. He will get back to us later and let us know.

But we did get to spend some time in our house today. The installer from Comcast was supposed to arrive between 10 and noon this morning. So we were there waiting. It would have been an opportunity to call some vendors, but there is no cell phone coverage inside the house. Someone said that the houses are built with some sort of metal mesh in the ceiling to help keep the roofs on in hurricanes. I don't know if he was pulling my leg, but while cell phone service outside the house is at least middlin', as soon as you walk inside, nada. At least we are protected from the government using mind control beams on us. I'm not sure we packed our tin foil hats.

But back to Comcast... the installer showed up at 2 and did not finish until almost 4. Well, he wasn't quite done, as we left, he was still waiting for someone else to come with a drill to attach the outside cable junction to the wall.

So, while I had planned on getting drivers licenses, car plates, trash service, lawn service and a few other things done... oh well, there is always tomorrow. Heathers only comment is, "harrumph."

Oh, but we did meet one of our next door neighbors, Danny and Barb. They were quite friendly and we had an immediate rapport when we learned they are cat lovers. They said we can pet their geriatric kitty whenever we want.

  • Moving Day

    30 juin 2017, États Unis ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

Joe Stokes finally showed up Friday at 9:00 am. However his local crew was a no show. My God, he unloaded a third of our house contents by himself before the replacement team showed up. Gordon was desperate to help, but Joe said he'd get in trouble if he let him. We tried giving Gordon the job of checking inventory numbers but he was restless and miserable. However, putting him in charge of chasing any vile insects that got in with the movers was a success.En savoir plus

We finally got all the pans and ingredients together so Gordon can make bread. I'm hard pressed to say who's happier!
