    Blackforestline

    August 14, 2023 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Since the end of May 2023, a 450 meter long suspension bridge has led over the Todtnau Waterfalls in the Upper Black Forest. Of course we had to go there!

Since the queue at the Hasenhorm summer toboggan run in Todtnau was too long for us and the Todtnau waterfalls are just around the corner, we naturally went to the new suspension bridge. We were lucky, there weren't too many tourists on the road and we parked the car in pole position. A really cool bridge is this…walking over a trellis 120m above the valley rocks!

Here are a few numbers: the total weight of the bridge is 730 tons, the pylons weigh 46 tons, you can tell how the mass vibrates. The height of the pylon is 16 meters, the catwalk weighs 55 tons, the suspension cables weigh 15.4 tons, the wind cable weighs 3 tons, the span of the bridge is 450 meters, the sidewalk width is 1.20 m, the max Capacity is 1000 people and the diameter of the suspension ropes is 76 mm.

The whole thing sways a bit back and forth with the people who move on it, no as much as Windsbraut or any other ship with a little swell. But there were a few people who moved suspiciously slowly and the spasmodic iron grip on the railing revealed that they were moving right on the edge of their comfort zone. 🤣
