    Last tea, Reinbek, Germany

    July 19, 2022 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

so this is my last tea before take off. i decided to visit my home area (black forest) before i start my new job on 1st of august. so here i am with my tea, enjoying the nature and a good read before i go to hamburg and pack my stuff to leave. it's only one week but since it's actually pretty hot down there i decided for 7 days in hot basel down town 🤪. fortunately river rhine is 400m walking distance so i can jump into cold water all day long and let myself drift through basel. ❤️Read more

  • Bag Packed, Hamburg, Germany

    July 19, 2022 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

my bag 💼 is packed and there is not much to carry since it’s summer 🥰. two asian dresses, my dressing gown 👘 (i never travel without it), underwear, swimming goggles 🥽 and swimsuit 🩱, the rest is wash bag, books 📖 and tech stuff 📱 and this time i’ll leave my swiss army knife, my headlight and my ruler behind. oooooooh - i already know that i will end up somewhere in the mountains ⛰, pitch black without my headlight 💡 and not able to defend myself against the wild boar 🐗 with my swiss army knife 🔪…
so now i will cook some dinner and after watering the plants i will put on my sunglasses and my cowboy hat 🤠 and off i’ll go ☺️.

  • Airport, Hamburg, Germany

    July 19, 2022 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

they told me: “come early, there are long queues 🐍 at the security check”.
normally i drop in the very last moment. and now? *nobody* 👻 in front of me at the security check, i *never* had that before and i used to travel quite often before covid 🦠 (even in covid times i travel a lot but not by plane 🚒…).
so now here i am, 2 hours before take of ✈️ - fortunately i have my ipad, my pen, my headset, my drinking water 💧 and freshly prepared tarte 🥧 (i thought to myself that i was going to sit around for a long time) 🤪.
so now i will listen to some music, draw and enjoy my sweet potato tarte 😋 - i will keep you posted on the outcome of the drawing ✍️…

  • Euroairport, Mulhouse, France

    July 19, 2022 in France ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

have you ever stopped by this airport? it’s a funny thing… it is an airport of three nationalities: swiss 🇨🇭, german 🇩🇪 and french 🇫🇷. the correct name is: euroairport basel, mulhouse, freiburg. so you have two exits: french/german (EU) and swiss. if you take the swiss exit you actually can only enter a bus 🚌 which goes to basel (10 min) and if you do not leave the bus 🚌 before you reach basel, you did not enter france 🇫🇷 - funny thing isn’t it? if you take the EU exit you are in france, but since there is no border control between france and germany you can reach germany within 10 minutes by car 🚙.
before the airport was built, there already was a similar solution in basel for the train. there are two main stations: basel SBB/SNCF and basel bad bf. basel SBB/SNCF is a swiss/french 🇨🇭/🇫🇷 station where you can switch french trains 🚂 in a separate railway hall, which is separated by a customs barrier from the swiss part. basel bad bf. is a station where you can only change german trains 🚂 (there are no others). the whole station is officially german 🇩🇪 ground in the middle of switzerland 🇨🇭. as long as you stay inside, you are in germany, the moment you leave the building, you pass a border control and enter switzerland. i love ❤️ that i grew up in such a cosmopolitan area…
so i will leave through swiss 🧀 exit, take the bus 🚌 to basel and drive straight to my good friend „scheuch“.

  • River Rhine, Basel, Switzerland

    July 20, 2022 in Switzerland ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

how nice ❤️ to be back home, to sit at river rhine and watch the hustle and bustle. the welcome yesterday evening was befitting with "chopfab" beer 🍻 („head off“ beer from winterthur) and mirabelle schnapps 🥂🤪.
the basel postcard is ready and i've already printed a few. the first swing will therefore be sent 🏤 today - let's see if i have time for more. the calendar 📅 is getting fuller and fuller - it shouldn't degenerate into leisure time stress. so if you don't get one this time, don't be sad, the next one will definitely come!

  • Stettemer Wiikeller, Stetten, Germany

    July 20, 2022 in Germany ⋅ 🌧 26 °C

this evening i visited anka (i know her since ever, and her siblings and her parents and her neighbors and the cats and and and), she operates a stunning little restaurant in the village where i grew up until i was 6 years old. my grandparents owned a farm in the village center, and there i lived. it's always a funny feeling when i stroll around the narrow streets and trails in between the old houses and gardens where i went to kindergarten when i was 3 years old. ❤️
so i had a great chat during dinner with some old friends from my period of storm and stress.
AND this is a *serious* recommendation if you love great local food in an authentic location: if you ever are around the south of black forest or basel: go there!

  • Outdoor Pool, Todtnauberg, Germany

    July 22, 2022 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

today was hooooot, so we decided to go up the mountains. on our way along the valley we had a great idea - there is a very small outdoor pool in the middle of the mountains. among the outdoor pools, the one in todtnauberg stands out in particular: it is small, family-run, privately financed - and is the highest in germany in almost 1000 meters above sea level. and this is exactly what we needed today...Read more

  • Perennial Nursery, Sulzburg, Germany

    July 22, 2022 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

today, on our way back home from swimming we passed by a big perennial nursery (staudengärtnerei gräfin von zeppelin) and my friend karo said: "this is the nicest one i know!" so we instantly stopped and had a look. and she is definitely right - but i'm not here by car and this saved my wallet 🤣.Read more

  • Basilisk Fountain, Basel, Switzerland

    July 24, 2022 in Switzerland ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

every time i go swimming in river rhine i walk along some basilisk fountains - and i ❤️ them.
around 1850, the water supply of the city of basel with its wells, some of which date back to the middle ages, had long since reached its limits. everywhere in the city there were fountains with large troughs, which had to cover the water supply of the population and the thirst of the horses. therefore, a new pipe system was set up in 1865/66 and more and more households were provided with their own water connection. as the traffic in the city center increased, the fountains, which were now too large, became more and more of a nuisance. solutions were sought. smaller wells sufficed for the households, even in the outskirts. after various attempts, a design competition for a city fountain was announced in 1884. wilhelm bubeck won this with his model, which shows a basilisk as a fountain figure, depicted as the shield holder of the basel coat of arms. according to his idea, 19 basilisk fountains were made and set up in basel. over time, another 30 pieces followed. some have disappeared again, so that today you can still find about 25 such fountains in the city of basel.Read more

  • Castel Rosso, Basel, Switzerland

    July 26, 2022 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

a friend of mine told me about this gelateria (ice manufacturer), she lives around the corner, in the same house where i stay atm.
since today is my last day in basel i definitely needed to check it out after my daily "rhyschwimme" swimming routine. to keep it short: summer is hot in basel, you definitely need ice cream - BUY IT THERE! chocolate-mint is awesome but raspberry-ginger is a cracker ❤️🍦.Read more

  • Euroairport, Mulhouse, France

    July 26, 2022 in France ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

i’m on my way back and had a really good time. a girl i met, was quite astonished when she heard that i moved away 30 years ago and still come back to meat my old friends every year.
for me that’s absolutely natural to do so, but i also love 💕 to visit „my girls“ in vienna 🇦🇹, my „old colleagues“ in turkey 🇹🇷 and my best friend from school in göttingen.
so hamburg, here i come - i’m looking forward to some nice sundowners 🍹 at alster 🌊.
