Gobi Desert Safari Day 5: Old Monastery

Day 5 on our Gobi Tour was not as spectacular as the two days before. We started with a long drive through bumpy roads to an old monastery. It was destroyed by the Russians in the 1930s and only the main building was rebuilt. From up the mountain we had a nice view over the temple area and the river. The river is the only river in the Gobi and normally not existing in summer.
After that we continued to our overnight camp where we tried some fermanated camel and horse milk. The camel milk was quite nice but the horse milk is very sour. Before dinner the host family milked all the horses and goats and some of us had the chance to try it as well...

Tag 5 unserer Tour durch die Gobi war bei weitem nicht mehr so spektakulär wie die Tage zuvor. Es ging los mit einer langen Fahrt quer durch die Wüste zu einem alten Tempel, der in den 30er Jahren von Russen zerstört wurde. Das Highlight war hier aber wohl eher der Blick vom Berg auf das Gelände und den Fluss. Es ist der einzige richtige Fluss in der Gobi und normalerweise zu dieser Jahreszeit ausgetrocknet.
Nach diesem Stopp ging es nochmal ein ganzes Stück weiter zu unserem Camp. Hier konnten wir der Gastfamilie beim melken der Ziegen und Pferde zusehen und auch ein bisschen fermentierte Kamel-und Pferdemilch probieren. Der Geschmack war so lala...Read more
