Sørstraumen Handel My Story

Sørstraumen Handel is a grocery store close to-one of the strongest sea
currents in Europe

The strong tidal current hay always been our reason to- be here, it is our
food tray, rich of various sorts of fish, and has historically been our
main road

Like the-tidal sea current can be challenging and is always in motion,
our grovery store has been through challenges since my great grandfather
Peder started in 18 91.

My grandfather rebuilt the store after everything was burned to-the
ground during the second world war

Then a new road over the sea current became a reality and my parents
hadto make a big decision; brild a new- store or close doww

In march 1 980 a new- modern store opened and as a 10 year old child at
thattime 1 can remember the joy and enthusiasm and the way it gave me
a feeling of how important our grocery store is to- the people in our
community . Perhapsthat is the most important reason why I ended up
taking over the store in 2005 and it still motivater me when I have to
make brave decisions.

In our area, Sami, Kven and Norwegians have met and lived together for
thousands of years, we live scattered and with a long distance to- the next
service point:

Every spring several families move here with their reindeer herds and
when I meet them for the first time in my store every year, I say "Bures"
and shake their hand the same way my ancestors greeted theirs.
