• ⛪️Deyrulzafaran Monastery

    August 29, 2018 in Turkey ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

In the morning, we visited the famous Deyrulzafaran Monastery, one of the most important Syriac Orthodox monasteries in the world. Located on a hill outside Mardin, it offers magnificent views over the Mesopotamian plains. Its history stretches back more than 1,500 years. The monastery's name, "Saffron Monastery," comes from the warm yellow color of its stone walls. During our visit, we explored historic prayer halls, courtyards, and the ancient church. The spiritual atmosphere throughout the complex was particularly impressive. For centuries, the monastery served as the seat of the Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate. Its architecture beautifully combines religious tradition with regional craftsmanship. The terraces offered breathtaking views across Mesopotamia. Visiting this historic site provided a fascinating insight into the region's religious diversity.
