• A brief stop in Lusaka

    2023年7月23日, ザンビア ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

We really didn’t sleep well at all! I got to sleep OK, but was woken up at 11.30pm by our obnoxious group member coming back from the bar! I couldn’t get back to sleep! The site was noisy all night, culminating in another Intrepid truck packing up to leave at about 5am. We weren’t having breakfast until 7am, but I gave up trying to get more sleep and went for a shower instead. The shower and hair wash in cold water well and truly woke me up!! We packed everything up and went for breakfast, which was French toast this morning. We found Mona’s bottle of wine which had gone missing last night. Of course, it was empty! She didn’t want to make a fuss, but all of the original group suspect the same person. Incidents like this just aren’t conducive to a happy trip!

We were on the road by 7.45am. We were in for another long driving day with 400 kilometres to cover to get to our next camp. Half of this distance would be on difficult roads. We didn’t really have time to explore Lusaka, but Laban allowed us ten minutes in the city centre to take some photos of the brutalist architecture.

Lusaka is the capital and largest city of Zambia. It is one of the fastest-developing cities in southern Africa. Lusaka is in the southern part of the central plateau at an elevation of about 1,279 metres. As of 2019, the city's population was about 3.3 million. Lusaka is the centre of both commerce and government in Zambia and connects to the country's four main highways. English is the official language of the city administration, while Bemba, Tonga, Lenje, Soli, Lozi, and Nyanja are the commonly spoken street languages.
