    An early start

    August 30, 2023 in Kenya ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

We slept OK until about 4am when the bush noises started. We had to be up at 5 anyway for a 5.30am breakfast. We had baked beans, bread, African doughnuts, sausages, hard-boiled eggs, and coffee to set us up for our game drive. Again, Markson sat with us to eat. We left camp at 6am and retraced our route back to his village.

    On the way, we saw:

    • A male antelope
    • Two warthogs
    • Three giraffes
    • A family of wild dogs – parents and pups
    • Lots of guinea fowl
    • Baboons
    • Children walking to school at 6.30am!

Sadly, the light wasn’t good enough to take photos at such an early hour.

Large areas had been deliberately burnt to encourage the grass to regrow. We could certainly see lots of green shoots coming through.
