• Journey to Rishikesh

    February 21 in India ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

After another cold night, I was happy to be able to make a coffee in my room before leaving on what turned out to be a long and tiring journey. My driver, Sunjit, was careful and polite, but he didn't speak much English, so conversation was limited. As we finally approached Rishikesh, it turned out that the guy from my Shimla hotel hadn't passed on the details about where I was staying. He was refusing to take me the extra few kilometres! I refused to get out of the car. There was a bit of an impasse, but eventually he drove on, albeit reluctantly! In the end, he couldn't take me all the way to my hotel as they were digging up the road, so I had to walk the last 500 metres. Typically, it was all uphill! I was wondering if I'd made another mistake.

However, when I did finally reach the Asha Delight, Sanjit on reception was very welcoming. He showed me to my room on the third floor, and best of all, there was a lift!! This is a first for me in India. My room is lovely - clean and comfortable with a nice view of the mountains. It will be a good place to explore from, but also to get some work done for a few days.

I dropped off my stuff and went out for something to eat. I only went as far as the corner, as I was pretty tired. I ordered an egg salad. It wasn't quite as I expected it to be, but it was OK. It tasted better than it looked 😂.
