    Today started with a hike up to Bunsen’s Peak (12 kms), with some great views. Could even see the top of Mammoth Hot Springs in the distance. https://www.relive.cc/view/vevYQ8wZ8Jv

    Of particular note, the scars of past forest fires are present throughout, as you can see in the pictures . . . all the downed trees. Looking back at my first visit to Yellowstone in 1990, I could still see the very recent damage caused by one of the biggest burn years ever in Yellowstone, in 1988. https://www.nps.gov/yell/learn/nature/1988-fire…

    Next, it was a return to Norris Geyser Basin . . . 33 years later. While it was still interesting to see, it was a shadow of its former glory. There have been thousands of small earthquakes underground, which caused many changes to the underground venting.     Then spent the night in West Yellowstone, MT.
