• Aloha H3 #1856 . . . 35th Anniversary Celebration

    September 26 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 26 °C

Hard to believe it has been 5 years since my last visit to this magnificent island of Oahu, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The last visit was to host the 30th Anniversary of the Aloha Hash. So nice to be back. This is actually the first hash club I founded, back on 22 Sep 1991.

This year, I snuck back into Hawaii to host again. Many thanks to all those that assisted with logistical support . . . My cohare Seamanator, Nut Mechanic for picking up the food, the drivers (Seamanator, Pipecleaner, and Nut Mechanic) . . . and anyone else I may have missed. Mucho Mahalo!!

Trail was 10 kms of glorious shiggy starting from the Old Pali Highway onto the Judd Trail, then the Nuuanu Trail, and then Pauoa Trail, followed by the Makiki Cliffside Trail, and the Manoa Cliff Trail, and finishing up on the Nā Ala Hele Moleka Trail taking us to the Puʻu ʻUalakaʻa State Wayside Park. There have been several storms flowing over the Hawaiian Islands this summer, and what would we be if not one more for our anniversary trail. Hurricane Nolo was threatening to douche our day in up to 12 inches of rain . . . but the RA climbed the mountaintop, sacrificed some no name effigies (so as not to offend anyone), and Nolo bowed down, and turned to the west. The only effects we enjoyed were some high winds and a bit of rain, just to keep us cool.

A river crossing at the start got everyone’s feet wet, certainly getting us all in the mood for shiggy. Next was the climb . . . 900 meters of muddy, sometimes slippery, slop . . . most of that in the first 2 kms. Once reaching the crest, the trail undulated up and down, twisting around the contours of the mountainside. About 8 kms in, the runners enjoyed a beer stop while dodging raindrops, and then the final 2 kms into the finish. The beer was flowing, the laughs (of muddy butts) were thundering, and all was confessed in circle. We wrapped it all up with a lovely catered picnic. All in all, a wonderful day of hashing. Don’t you wish you were here?
