• Honolulu Hawaii H3 (H5) #2322

    September 22 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

It has been 5 years since I last visited my old hash club in Hawaii. This was actually the second hash club I ever ran with way back in 1991, and boy have things changed over the past 35 years. We had an amazing pack of nearly 25 hashers, all primed and ready to go. This was the 99th time I have hared for the H5 (guess I’ll have a milestone event next time I visit). After a brief chalk talk, the pack headed down the old Pali Highway towards the inevitable right hand turn that took them up . . . up . . . up the side of the crest to the trail area. This is where things got shiggy with it. It was a short trail, but very muddy with plenty of climbing up and down. The FRBs came in at 45 minutes, while the DFLs managed to drag in at an hour and 45 minutes.

The start was at Castle Junction, a place that used to be a quite common meeting point, but from looking at the trails, it does not appear it has seen much hasher action in some time. Although many of the old trails are still there, some have become quite overgrown. It was getting dark by the time last few straggled in to the finish, and we soon circled up for down downs. All the usual points were made, but the RA (Kitty Kitty Spank Bank) had brought in a stack of pizzas to help celebrate this auspicious occasion.

Today is the actual birthday for the Aloha Hash, the little brother of the H5. He also brought a mini keg of home brew, so we were primed all around.
    All in all, another S H I . . . T T Y . . . T R A I L !!
