    Well, there are a few lessons to be learned, and hopefully we all learned something . . . I certainly did. It was “Always Cums Last” first real trail setting experience (come to think of it, it was also my first time haring for the Harriettes - but those other 668 trails I have hared should have resulted in a couple less concerns), where she picked the start, the trail, and the on after.

    As co-hare, I obviously failed to properly supervise as it seems the start location was on government property, and we ended up getting chased out at 19:30. Although the trail was actually quite brilliant, unfortunately the pack had a hard time breaking a couple checks, and came back frustrated. And the on after was a bit non-traditional, but everyone still got fed . . . except Boob-a-lube who upon not getting the food dropped off right in front of him, decided to grumble about it 😊 and continually tell us about how he can do it so much better, and what a bunch of crap he had to endure even showing up for this trail 😊 . . . he also hated the free Chiang Beer that was brought to the table, so we got him some Leo, which was apparently not 37 degrees F, so he complained about that as well.

    I will extend my sincere apologies for anything that I should have provided better assistance for, and you all thought was lacking, but I still think it was a brilliant trail. Well done to ACL for the exceptional first effort, the next one you will have it all sorted.    Meer informatie

    Bangkok Full Moon H3 #213

    For inner city hash trails, it is hard to beat Bangkok. There are areas that have very tightly interwoven alleyways, klong paths, and connectors. Last night was one of those trails, where we were changing directions and cutting down short paths every 50-100 feet (or less in some cases). In some spots, a check had as many as a dozen possible ways to go, and it took the whole pack of 30 hashers to find the way out. So much fun blazing along through the dark chasing flour dots in this live hared trail. Well done to P*ssy Virus for the great entertainment. The map shows some of the twists and turns, but with the tightness between the walls, the GPS could not keep track.Meer informatie

    My last trail in Thailand for this year, but will be back soon in the new year. It was another awesome 9 km trail in the north-west region of the city, and we managed to keep our feet dry. A hearty pack of 25 or so made it out . . . and totally by coincidence, it was Boob-a-lube’s birthday. I have an early morning flight to Cambodia coming up soon, and will be running on their 30th anniversary trail in the afternoon. Then Mekong Indochina Hash in Kampot. I think it will be 7 trails all together.Meer informatie

    It was an amazing trail and event celebration. Their birthday is actually in August of 1992, but the P2H3 delayed their 30th Anniversary until today to make it part of the Mekong Indochina Hash “week of events.” As often happens when you plan a somewhat spontaneous hash event, some things can go wrong. Case in point . . . yesterday, all the registered attendees were told to be at the meet point at 1:15 pm, so that we can all get on the boat for the scheduled departure at 1:30. This morning, another announcement is sent out that said to meet at 12:30 pm for a scheduled 1:00 pm departure. So the gaggle of hashers are forming up at the proper location, at the proper time, when we are eventually told that the boat was no longer available. Damn. But the MM quickly acted to get us some trucks to cart our asses to the ferry landing about 10 kms away. The trucks pull up, we start loading, and then stood in the back of these trucks for about 20 minutes, in the mid-day sun.

    Fortunately, at this point we eventually get moving and everything goes as scheduled. We hit the ferry landing, load the boat, and make the hour or so long journey to the run site. After some brief instructions, the runners take off for a 10 Km (A to B to B) trail, the walkers for a 5 km (A to B) trail, and the slugs make a 2 km jaunt right up the coast to the B. Runner’s trail was a delightful water drenched (it had poured last night, making for a sloppy trail) for the first 5 km to the B site, where the walkers all met up, but then the runners go an additional 5 km B to B loop that brought us back to the same spot. We were all well covered in mud and sweat by the time we returned to the finish.

    After washing up, and downing a couple beers, the circle commenced, followed by a catered meal on site. Once we all had our fill, it was back on the boat to reverse the order of our arrival. Boat to ferry landing, and back on the trucks to the meeting point. Lightweights like myself headed off to their hotel for clean up and bed, while some of the hearty hashers loaded back up in the trucks for a ride out for more partying. I am almost too tired to sleep at this point, hoping that writing this will put me away for the next 10 hours. My late night out with the Bangkok H3, followed by an early morning wake up to head to the airport, has left me with little sleep and sagging eyelids. So, if anything is missing from the half-assed assessment, it will surely be updated in the morning. On On.    Meer informatie

    Phnom Penh City H3 #131

    One last prelube event in Phnom Penh before heading south to Kampot. It was run around the city, taking in some of the grand sites . . . and empty streets at PP prepares an Asian Summit where many world leaders will be popping in over the weekend. We had a splendid 9 km trail that ended down by the river.

    Kampot H3 MIH Prelube

    After the 3 hour drive down from Phnom Penh, it was time once again for trail in a new location. We had upwards of 80 hashers turn up for this prelube shindig to the Mekong Indochina Hash here in Cambodia. We were requested to just walk the trail, and enjoy the day . . . so we did. It was an A to B trail, starting at one resort, and ending at another, both on the river. In between, we had 8 kms of mostly dirt rounds and trails, with several long check backs to take in some extra views of the area.

    Circle was replete with several ice blocks to chill even the hottest of tushes. After getting most of the pack on and off the ice, we were all treated to a nice BBQ . . . and plenty of cold beer. It was a great start to the weekend of events here in Kampot.    Meer informatie

    Thinking Drinking H3 #76

    Three long years have gone by since the last TDH3 trail back at Mekong Indochina Hash in Chiang Mai. We are now in Kampot, Cambodia and soaking up the sun, and lots of it. Gathering at the Sunny Hotel, (a.k.a. TDH3 Central), a pack of 80 hashers gathered for what lay ahead. It was a short ride out into the countryside, and first thing upon arrival, straw hats were passed out for those that wanted them you can see them in the pictures). There were three trail options (short, medium, and long), and as you may guess . . . I went short, like my P****, opps, we’ll save that story for anther time. So, all of us LONG trail runners were sent to the back of the lot and told to turn left. We took a few turns and ran right into the first of several FT marks on this 10 Km trail (well, it was probably shorter, but being a lucky loser I found a few of those FTs and searched the wrong way at a couple checks). That turned us around to the slightest of water crossing, really just a low spot where a puddle formed, and already some of the softer hashers were crying and turning around. But on we go . . .

    The first couple kms were a loop back to almost the start, where the first drink stop was passed by. Trail continued on out into some most excellent paths, and after snaking our way between a few small huts, we had a bridge crossing followed by a long stretch along the river . . . and then we waded across it (only ankle deep), and continued on into a small village. After check several directions, true trail was eventually found headed back along the way we came in, and meandered into the open spaces of failed constructions sites. It seemed like we had only just gotten started, when we popped out of a narrow alley way and ran into a few tuktuks lined up on a dirt road . . . beer stop? YES . . . end of the trail? YES. It was a nice touch, carting our sweaty asses the last couple of kms back to the awaiting party barge, where the cold beer flowed freely. This barge would be party central for the rest of the day, as we cut loose from the shore and rode her back into Kampot. Lunch was served, and we had the circle right there on the boat. Well done to the hares for setting a fabulous trail, and to Nibbles and the other helpers for organizing a great day of hashing and fun.    Meer informatie

    Mekong Indochina Hash BALL BREAKER TRAIL

    The forecast showed rain for the day, but we saw little of that early on in the trail. It was hot and humid as we poured off the bus at the start. The first 2 kms was basically just running back up the main road we arrived on, before turning left and into some old dirt roads. At 5 kms we had a quick hash hold, before getting back on trail. At 6 kms, we met up with the LONG trail runners who had just started, and where a water stop was SUPPOSED to be . . . but nothing, so on we went. Finally getting into some real shiggy trail, we crossed some cow pastures and orchards as we zigged and zagged our way along the side of the small elevations in the area.

    At 8 kms, we found the actual only water/beer stop on trail where all the trails converged for a bit. We then worked our way around the side of two more small hills before getting back to the main road . . . and this is when it started to sprinkle. Trail then went down to the beach, which was not really any beach at all, but a long construction site where some new buildings were under construction. At just about 16 kms, trail turned back up to the main road, where the finish awaited us at a park with a soccer field.

    By this time, the sky was turning dark, and although we were already soaking wet, the rain really started coming down at this point. The last 25 – 30 hashers who staggered in at this point were nearly swimming their way in. The rain came down for nearly half an hour, but then tapered off as we munched on snacks until the circle started. With 10 blocks of ice as the center piece, circle gaggled on into the dark of night. After several dozen down downs had been administered, we boarded the busses and headed back into town. A fun day with many hash friends.    Meer informatie

    Mekong Indochina Hash HANGOVER TRAIL

    Nursing our hatched hangovers, we gathered once again for trail on Sunday morning. It was an A to A event, starting at the sports field in down town Kampot, next to the bus station. Trail was a simple 5 km wander around town as we forced the alcohol out of our blood system via sweat . . . just in time to start circle all over again. All the final bitches and complaints were heard as down downs were issued, and then we feasted on some fine BBQ . . . and then . . . it was all over. Nothing left but the Monday Full Moon hash for those willing to stay another night in Kampot.Meer informatie

    Yangon Full Moon H3 (MIH Postlube)

    BoBo strikes again, and he promised it would be a great event . . . and it was. We had about 90 signed up as of noon, but 5 more showed up at the busses for departure at 4 PM. Speaking of departure, we loaded up the busses just in time, before the skies opened up and dumped some serious rain. Fortunately, it rained itself out quickly, and by the time we reached the run site, we only had the ground water to contend with, and only a little bit of sprinkle.

    It was a muddy 6 Km trail through some old dirt roads and bike paths, leading us on this A to B affair, ending on the river, where copious amounts of cold beer and wine awaited a drenched pack. After quenching our thirsts, and getting on some dry clothes, the pack circled up for t-shirt chucking, then sitting on the ice as numerous down downs were issued. Finally, when all that silliness was complete, it was time for dinner. All in all, a very well planned and organized event. Well done BoBo (and thanks for letting me set trail with you).     We had a nice trail around Arlington, on a rather cold day [33 F] (cold for me at least. Heck, 3 days before I was hashing in Cambodia where it was 90+ every day). I just wrote it off as acclimatization training for my trip to Antarctica next month. 😊 Mount Vernon H3 was always one of my favorites, as they are really a runners hash. I was sort of a regular back in the late 90s and around the turn of the century, but coming back 20 + year later always feels a bit weird. Anyway, always good to sneak back in for a visit. Trail took us through some of the hilly areas of town, but nothing to drastic. Pack of about 25 or so, and did get to see some old friends. Shout out to Saigon Sally, my COVID buddy in Bahrain.     Mountain Momma H3

    If you have been following any of my run reports over time, you may notice there is no rhyme or reason of where I may turn up on a hash. Last week I was in Cambodia, two days ago in Washington, DC . . . yesterday it was central West Virginia. Hashing is a great sporting event all over the world. I was lucky to catch up with the Mountain Momma H3 last night on their MONTHLY trail. I never know what to expect when I visit a hash club for the first time, and last night was no exception. The announcement for trail simply said to meet at the skate park under the bridge, which all locals know about . . . but I had to ask for a specific address, which was quickly provided.

    I arrived at the start point 10 minutes ahead of the designated time, and no one was there . . . but the lead hare did soon turn up. No Name Noah was about to set his virgin hare trail, and was a bit nervous. I had the chance to chat with him for a bit, and he told me he was about to leave town (enlisted in the Navy), so I gave him a bit of a pep talk based on my own experience (both haring and in the military). The rest of the pack rolled in over the next 30 minutes, and by the time we had hares away, we had a solid pack of 10.

    Trail was mostly through town, which was rather empty as we only passed a handful of people as we worked our way through the 5+ mile trail, with a song stop and a couple beer checks. Speaking of beer checks, we were at the second one, in a small out of the way park. After about 10 minutes, a cop car slowly rolls into the parking lot . . . turns around, pauses as his lights hit us standing off in the back of the park (why in the world would 10 people, standing in a circle, in the back corner of a dark park in a remote corner of the city ever be suspicious), but he backs up and starts to roll out. BUT, then he stops, gets out and walks towards us, but then stops and flashes his light into a ditch near us.
    We start to chat with him a bit, and he asks if we have seen anyone dumping trash (or something in a white plastic bag) in the area. He clearly stated we were no issue, but that a local neighborhood Karen had reported someone pulling up and dumping this plastic bag (which we had hidden behind us, with a few beers in it) behind us. He quickly gives up and returns to his car and drives away. It was one of the most bizarre hash related law enforcement encounters I have ever seen (and I have seen many).

    Anyway, after the cop leaves, the hares continue on to set the final leg into the finish, and we soon follow. Back under the bridge, by the skate park, we have a short circle (because it is now cold as [insert your favorite expression for cold] and we decide to go to SAM’s for the On On On. Sam’s is a cool local sports pub, where we all met up for a couple beers and eats, while Monday Night Football played at the bar. We had a few laughs, named our virgin hare who has now completed 3 hash trails and hared . . . "23 Dump Street" (he is 23, and apparently gets noticed by local Karens for dumping plastic bags full of beer in local parks).

    All in all, it was a great experience with friendly hashers.    Meer informatie

    Clarksville H3 (Tennessee) Thanksgiving

    So much has happened over the past week, so just getting caught up. Wanted to make a special shout out to the Clarksville H3 in Tennessee. We were making our way down from Washington, DC to Nashville, and had no real plan for Thanksgiving. While searching for local hash clubs, found that the CH3 was going to have an event on the day [TURKEY GOBBLER 2022] hosted by Weblows, FGR, and Disney. There was mention of a trail, but never materialized, but we were warmly welcomed in to share the fabulous Thanksgiving feast. There were about 15 other hashers that showed up as well, and we had some cold beverages while we watched 2 turkeys get deep fried. We also watched a couple football games while we chatted about the history of the Hash House Harriers.

    So, to make a long story short, I am always amazed at the warmth and friendship that hashers extend to fellow hashers. What a great day it was . . . AND they even offered a warm bed in their home for us, which we gratefully accepted. Many many thanks to all the hashers of the Clarksville H3, and especially to Weblows, FGR, and Disney for their hashpitality.
