  • EUROHASH 2025 - Hangover Trail

    17 de agosto, Estônia ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Nothing was scheduled, so I volunteered to set the hangover trail. We had an early morning transport from the venue back to Tallinn, so after we dropped off the bags at the hotel, we circled up for a relaxing stroll around Tallinn.

It looked like only about 30-40 were planning to joining in, but in the end we had about 150. Trail was set with a running (7 km) and walking (5.5 km) split, with views of parks and waterfront. We even scaled the old Tallinna Linnahall, which is an old sports complex used during the 1980 Olympics.

Spent the day traveling from Stuttgart to Frankfurt to return the rental car, and catch a flight to Estonia. Its time to enjoy EUROHASH in Tallinn, so what better way than to join the regular weekly running of the Tallinn Hash.

It looks like we had a couple hundred early arrivals joining in for this 8.5 km dash through the streets of Tallinn. Trail passed through downtown area with bars and restaurants, and some parks, and then a long finish down the waterfront. A most excellent start to the weekend of events of EUROHASH that unfolds tomorrow.

Everything started out normal, then we got to maybe the second check. I went straight, there were two marks. Then way back I heard On On. Rather than go all the way back, I decided (as any sane FRB might do) to continue on forward and take the next right turn onto trail and just catch back up. Well, I went up another 100 meters and low and behold . . . an arrow pointing the other way. We all know what that means . . . trail has come back around to a check, and I am now back on trail.

Well, it was actually quite a ways on into trail, so I was pretty much all alone from that point. I considered following the trail backwards and meet back up with the pack, but then I considered how many times I was left out on a false trail, nobody marked the check, and I ended up having to figure it out for myself and ending up waaaaaay back. So I thought, what the hell, just keep going. I eventually arrived at the beer check, where several walkers were waiting.

Figuring the pack would be along shortly, I ended up continuing on to the finish, which was about another 3 kms. About 10 minutes later, the beer car rolls into the finish, as the pack had arrived and continued on. BUT, not sure what the hell they ended up doing, but the pack was out for almost another hour. Anyway, all's well that ends well.

Circle was quite energetic, and we had to say goodbye to AC Squirter who is headed back to the USA. Fair Winds my friend, and safe travels.

Last week, the GM made an announcement that she still needed a hare for this month . . . say no more. I decided to set trail in an area that my very good hash buddy Benwa was known to set a trail that he enjoyed so much, that he did not want the pack to even run it. That was about 14 years ago. He as the hare was the last one to get to the finish. More on that story over a beer some day, if you ever want to hear it. 🤪🤪

Today, I set the trail early on, and then ran with the pack just for fun. I went out to get some refreshments, but when I returned and saw the pack forming, I wondered if this was going to be a wake. It seemed everyone was in black.

We eventually got everyone together (a total of 13 hashers on trail), and off we went. It was a 9 km scurry in the shadow of Patch Barracks and Stuttgart Universitat. Trail even crisscrossed the Max Planck Institute for higher learning (so it had to be smart). Trail then made some more zigs and zags toward Katzenbacher Hof, where the pack stopped for an impromptu beer check.

After the beer, the trail continued on into the forest for another 4 kms, with ups and downs, and the final ON IN! We had a quick circle, and on in for dinner of German delights. A great day of hashing.

We had a bigger than usual pack tonight, close to 25. Once we all got together, it was a massive chalk talk, see the photo. Then off we go. There was significant gaps in marks, and I think there was more chalk in the chalk talk than on this 4.5 km trail. 🤪 I had time to enjoy an extra mile jog around the park at the end.

In the end, we all made it back to the parking lot, and hit the cooler. There were also plenty of snacks, so all were content by the time circle started. It was a hoot. Good times on the hash.

KRASH H3 (Kaiserslautern Ramstein Altenglan Sembach Hash) #22

This is a fairly new hash club, and my first time to run with them. Met up with a few old friends I have not seen in over a decade, and met a few new ones. We met in a small park in the center of Erdesbach, Germany, and it was a lovely warm afternoon. I guess we had about 11 hashers on trail, and it was a doozy. Lots of climbing, but great views and good fun. It was a special day for Butt His Nut for his 55th Birthday.

Our hare, Teacher’s Pet, set an awesome 5 km A to B trail, which netted several of us with over 6 kms of checking fun. He also ensured we were well hydrated and fed at the end, providing the full gambit of goodies. It’s a bit higher up in elevation, and when the sun goes down, so do the temps. It cooled off quickly, so it was back to the hotel for a hot shower and a good night’s sleep. On On until next time.

Once again, it was my turn to hare. So I took the pack out into the forest for some shiggy fun, south of Stuttgart. We had about 25 hashers turn up, including a couple of visitors from Taiwan (Dr Bintang and ???).

I took off at 1830, with the pack in chase at 1845 . . . and I was lucky to finish just about 5 minutes before the FRBs came dashing in on this 8+ Km trail. Looking at the pack photos, they appeared to been having a good time. The weather was amazing, and we enjoyed a lovely Swabian dinner under the sun, before darkness finally settled in and chased us all home. Until next time, ON ON!

Saturday Hash In The Summer (S.H.I.T.S.) H3 #299

The temps have been cooler since back in Germany, and it has rained nearly every day. But today it was pleasantly warm and sunny for this trail, well south of Frankfurt in Zwingenberg.

It was obvious right from the start, that this trail was going to be a little bit more vertical than what we normally get in Frankfurt, and you will see from the photos it was. You can also see from the map, that there is a plethora of trails up on this mountain range, and we explored many of them on this 8.5 km stroll. It took more than twice as long to cover the 3.25 kms to the top, than it did to run the 5.5 kms back down. A great day of fun.

We had rain off and on all day, and when we met up at the start, our hare informed us that the trail was set yesterday . . . so good luck. Fortunately, we were able to find most of the marks and managed to complete the trail in good form.

Circle was hilarious, with plenty of barbs getting thrown around . . . and since this is our founder's birthday, we assembled the hash choir and sang a fine tune. Great times on the hash here in Germany.

For the hash history buffs, you are aware that hashing has its roots in the kids game of hare & hounds. This fun is not limited to the children of England, but has also made its way to Germany. German kids play Schnitzeljagd (Google it), but they most often use sawdust . . . but they also use chalk in the school yard and other paved areas. Check out the name of this hash club above (I founded this hash back in 2009).

I have run across a few trails while out in the wooded area, but today we had a check not too far into trail, and I ran into the school yard to find an arrow, then a check, then even more. And they just so happened to be using the same colored chalk our hare used today. Check out the video below.

Trail today was an excellent 7.5 kms that ended at a free rock concert in town, an AC/DC tribute band. The band was pretty good, but the lead singer was lacking. Check out those videos attached as well. Another great day on the hash.

I skipped the hangover trail at Bayern Nash Hash, in hopes of getting a more substantial trail down in Stuttgart. Good choice . . . got a fun shiggy 12.5 km trail, and that's all she wrote.

We had about 15 hashers on hand, for this flatlander's trail. We had a bit of rain before we set off, so some of the marks took extra effort to find, but we made it all the way around, all good. This should help me sleep.Leia mais

The jet lag has been a bit rough this week, after an 11 hour flight from Bangkok to Frankfurt (but slowly catching up on sleep). Had a good trail today with our host Nuremberg H3.

The forecast had lots of rain for today, but after sacrificing two goats and a parakeet, we ended up with fair skies all day. Trail was mostly through local parks and various streets, and we even ran through a parkrun site (which a handful of hashers took part in earlier this morning).

Dinner was excellent, with some of the local Nuremberg bratwurst, and beer of course. Yet again, sleep is calling, so maybe will eventually catch up. 🙂

Another excellent 4x2 trail. It was a B-A adventure starting with a 30 min shuttle to the start. It was only about 4 kms away, but took half an hour due to traffic. 🙂 Once we arrived, it was a quick chalk talk and off we go.
Mostly back and forth on various khlong paths, with plenty of checks to keep the front runners together. After all had returned, we had a fun circle then dinner.

It has been awesome hashing in Thailand for the past few weeks, now off to Europe for a few more.

We had rain for about 30 minutes, prior to starting trail, but it stopped about 20 min before we ran and all was well. Other than some wet feet, we managed to make our way around. BUT, our hares had left the paper sooooooo far apart, we ended up finding trail off a check that was headed back rather than out. Problem was, we ended up following it backwards because we did not know, until we circled back to the original check. Then we went back to the paper in question, and found the way out. The map shows the confusion vs what the actual trail was. The hares got a couple extra down downs, and all was well.

It was also my 4000th lifetime hash trail, but whatever. 🙂

    17 de julho, Tailândia ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

It was one of those days. We had a fairly rookie hare, and he made the critical mistake of marking trail with chalk, on the ground. The mistake was, that it is the rainy season, and a half hour before the start, it rained. Marks became faded, if not completely washed away.

In a way, it was kind of fun treating it like an Easter Egg hunt, dashing around from street to street, alleyway to alleyway, khlong to khlong, looking for marks. After about the first 2 kms, the pack got all separated, and many punted and just went back to the start. Some of us had fun just running around errantly, enjoying the evening.

Eventually, one of the long time local hashers took over and marked the last 3-4 kms on back to the finish, that some of us found. In the end, all good. Another fun evening.

  • Bangkok Harriettes #2222

    17 de julho, Tailândia ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

It was a landmark occasion for the harriettes as they reached their 2222nd hash trail in Bangkok (second only to Bangkok H3 founded in 1977). Founded on 17 March 1982 (one week after the Bangkok Monday H3, but have completed more trails), by Janet Baker, with the assistance of Christine Morf.

Often referred to as the ‘Friendliest Hash in Bangkok, Janet Baker explained the founding like this . . .

“Tony ‘Godfather’ Erswell (a.k.a. Ambrose) urged Christine Morf and me to start the Bangkok Harriettes, as he felt there were a number spouses of active Members of the All Male Bangkok H3 who would like to run and who would enjoy the spirit of the hash. We talked it over and deigned to give it a try. However, we really didn’t think it would fly. We decided to lay the first five runs in Lumpini Park until we got the hang of the whole thing. We had quite a group for our first run, but it was padded with female staffers of the Bangkok Post! Well, we got some good publicity out of it!”
Although the Bangkok Harriettes started out as a women’s only club, eventually men were allowed and it became a mixed hash. Christine Morf was a regular in the beginning, but departed Thailand after the 50th run, she commented that “After 2-3 months we had trumped up a pack of around 20 harriettes, but I don’t really remember when we allowed men to join. Maybe it was after I left?”

Congratulations to the Bangkok Harriettes for over 40 years of great hashing.

Now back to today's trail . . . the highlight was the fashionable T-shirts provided by The Senator, our hare for the day.

Just back from a whirlwind trip up to Japan to celebrate the 1000th running of the Sumo H3, and lacking sleep . . . but it was a hashing day! So off I go . . .

Drunken Donut (with a little help from Sexy Lashes) set an awesome 9 km A to B trail out in Chinatown. As we assembled at the start, the skies looked a bit daunting, and then the wind kicked up with sh*t blowing around everywhere. Looked like rain . . . but fortunately we only got a couple drops. Good thing too, as most of the trail was marked in chalk. Could have been a disaster if it rained.

The pack was held together pretty well, with numerous FT and back checks, through the maze of tiny alleyways and khlong paths we enjoyed in search of the ever awaiting beer cooler at the end.

As the pack reassembled at the end, for Bastille Day, our hares arranged for some French treats of bread, cheese, pate, and wine as we waited for circle to kick off . . . very tasty. Circle was the usual, and then we ended with a fine dinner. Great day on the hash, but a good night's sleep sure made it even better. On On!

Sunday hangover trail after a great day of hashing and partying yesterday. We had a nice calm 5 kms of fun, and an interesting circle with live music. We followed that up with gyoza, since Utsunomiya is the Japanese capital of gyoza, if not the world.

Just a quick fly in from Bangkok to Tokyo to enjoy a great hash weekend with my friends of the Sumo H3. I had the good fortune to bring this hash to life back in 2002, and they are still going strong.

We had an awesome 8 Km trail on Saturday, followed by a beer soaked amazing dinner with so much good food to eat. On Sunday, we had another most excellent trail to sooth our hangovers.

Well done to the Sumo H3 for 23 years of hashing. Next year will mark the 50th Anniversary of the Tokyo H3 and 50 years of Hashing in Japan. That will be taking place in July 2026.

We met deep in the local village outside Chang Erawan, for a rare Hazukashii & Virginia Slim tag team haring effort. As you can see from the first picture, VS is as happy as a pig in sh*t as he brandishes his favorite garden utensil, with delusions of Crocodile Dundee.

To kick things off, we got a call days after all the arrangements had been made, that the chef got COVID, so the restaurant was closed. Further coordination ensured we could still park there and hold the run (so we arranged for pizza to be delivered).

The pack assembled on schedule, and after the customary introductions and chalk talk . . . away they go (with the knowledge of virgin territory to come). Of course, Boob and Incomplete Erection started early to accommodate walking, and despite the knowledge of virgin territory, they thought they knew better and departed from trail only to end of way off track, and way DFL.

FRB, Hand Cream, had no issues with trail, and finished in just over an hour on this 7.5 km adventure, even stopping to enjoy a very rare beer check on a Haz trail. Most of the rest of the pack came in at a bit over 90 minutes, while Boob & IE came in at over 2 hours.

With the GM out of town, former GM Maverick entertained the pack with a few down downs, ensuring to recognize our 3 visitors, and then the pizza arrived. Chow down hogs, and grab a beer.
