    Trieste is a happening place

    October 4, 2023 in Slovenia ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

I’ve been hearing during our travels that Trieste, a deep water port in far northeastern Italy, is a small and quiet city on the Adriatic. That may be so, but we arrived late this morning to a bustling and noisy place. Unbeknownst to us, the 3-day Barcolana Sea Summit is taking place here, starting today. A conference to discuss sustainability issues related to the Mediterranean, it appears to also attract a huge party. Sort of feels like the Colorado State Fair, with numerous booths lined up along the waterfront, selling food, boats, clothes…many blasting music. One huge booth was even called Texas Barbecue. On the lovely Adriatic Sea? Needless to say, we are disappointed that our one afternoon and evening planned for Trieste coincided with this event. Oh well, we still had fun, and had a great meal this afternoon at an outdoor cafe near the water. Tomorrow - Venice! Oh, and the video was taken this evening of three excellent musicians making some great music along the promenade. And the first photo is taken from the bus of the gorgeous Slovenian countryside just a few kilometers from Trieste. Reminds me of my home in southern Colorado’s Wet Mountains - just a lot greener.Read more
