    “Goin’ to the country…

    …baby do you want to go?” (Thank you Allman Brothers for your oh-so-tasty rendition of Statesboro Blues and oh-so-fitting opening lines.) After our fill of city sights and sounds over the last many days, we opted to hop on a bus and head to the town of Fiesole. I so needed this day to go to the country. A 35-minute bus ride brought us up and out of the valley into the hills surrounding Florence. After a little exploring and a delicious Tuscan meal, we worked our way along narrow hilly streets to a trail that climbs towards Mount Ceceri and the Piazzale Leonardo da Vinci. Being in the shade of the trees, hiking a country trail, being away from the city energy, was the perfect antidote to the city busyness.

    The stone engraving are notes of Leonardo that translate to: “The great bird will take his first flight above from the hill of Mount Ceceri, filling the universe with wonder, filling with his fame all the scriptures and giving eternal glory to the nest where he was born.”
