    Galveston April 16, 2018

    April 16, 2018, Gulf of Mexico ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Arrived at the ship about 12:30. Got checked in and had lunch about 1:30. Leaving Galveston now. There's a deck party going on.

About 7:30 pm, Steve noticed the ship was turning around. Then the captain announced that someone onboard has a medical emergency. So, we are going back to the Galveston harbor to offload this passenger. Captain thinks we will depart Galveston again about midnight.Read more

So, I ran into Margaret Mallia on this cruise. She is a long time friend from when we lived in Ashford Village. She and I took turns being school pto and/or booster club presidents. We had dinner together tonight and had a great time reminiscing.

The show tonight was a piano player. He played my mother's favorite piece by Chopin, Fantasie Impromptu. I couldn't help but cry through the whole song. She would have loved it.

Tonight, the waiters sang for us at dinner.

Another great day on Vision of the Seas. The pianist Brooks Aehron played again in the afternoon. He was excellent. I spent over $100 and bought 4 of his McD's. One is actually a DVD. Steve and I played trivia in the morning and then I stitch with the knitting ladies.Read more

Today at sea they did a ceremony of crossing the ocean. It's usually done crossing the Pacific, but they decided to do it on the Atlantic too.

We landed in the Azores after 5 days at sea. It's a quaint little area. We just walked around the town since we had been here before.
The yellow doorway is a Jewish museum we went in. Then there are 2 pictures of the inside of the synagogue. This synagogue dates back to the 1600's.
The streets here are mostly cobblestone and/or bricks. The streets are marked and decorated with white stones. Guess they don't have to do much repainting if the streets.

Steve and I both liked this port and really want to come back. Our tour today was to the Alhambra Palace. That was all day, so we didn't get to see the port town or Grenada. . . .next time. So, Steve didn't set his alarm right, so we didn't get up until 7:30. I was up, but had looked at my watch wrong and thought it was 5:30. At 7:45 we realized our mistake. Our tour left at 8:30, so when we realized it was 7:45, we got moving, made it to breakfast., and went to our meeting place. There we were told that we looked at three ticket wrong. The tour left at 8:30, but met at 7:50. We got to the bus at 8:28,but the bus had already left. After much talking, they called the bus and it stopped and we caught a cab to meet up with them. All was well. Alhambra, once you get there, is a lot of walking, mostly uphill, rarely down hill. I am over my 10,000 steps. My thighs are sore from all the uphill walking. But the palace was nice. It's an old Muslim palace with lots of beautiful wall carvings and ceiling decorations. Gorgeous gardens.Read more

Cheryl and Bobby got here about noon. They were real tired, so they had to rest a while. We went out walking again, stopped for wine twice and had dinner. Tomorrow we're going to really start sightseeing.
Cheese Art is where Steve and I had lunch. It was good. Everything they made had cheese in it. Tons of different cheeses.

We had a great, but exhausting day. We walked forever. Went to a church on the top of a hill and walked tons of steps to get to the top. From the top you hit wonderful views of the whole city. The photos inside the church that look like paintings are all mosaic tiles. The church is at the top of Mount Tibidabo. There is also an amusement park there. We took a funicular down.Read more
