    Snow and Sequoias

    November 11, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 5 °C

Not long after leaving Linn's house at ~4000 ft in elevation, we saw the first skiff of snow, and soon we were riding in a proper winter wonderland. We had a nice surprise when we arrived at the Kings Canyon park entrance and found that the entrance fee was waived for Veterans' Day. The warm sun made for a beautiful setting to see some of the biggest (by mass) trees in the world. The two biggest Giant Sequoias in the park are named after Generals Grant and Sherman, and are humbling to say the least. We knew there was a chance we would have to camp in the snow and sure enough, with all the beautiful sights to take in, the climb to 7592 ft (our highest on the trip so far), and the icy sections of road we had to navigate later in the day, we didn't have enough daylight to get down below snowline before dark - good thing we kept all those warm clothes!Read more
