      Dingle Peninsula Tour

      July 17, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 61 °F

We took an all day (9:30am to 4pm) tour around Dingle Peninsula today. Our driver's name was Rory, and, we found out, he was a bit hung over. Had "racks" of pints watching the game yesterday. Ha! He is a local who lives in a small village with less than 800 people.
We loved this tour for the simple fact that we got out so often. Rory had lots of information on all the stops as well. I will post pictures here that I can't recall the name of the exact location.
Rory told us the waters are very over fished, which causes a lot of issues. We also had a big laugh about the Americans who identify as cats, and the parents that allow it. Meow.
Rory lived in the states for 11 years because he is a master wood worker and did old wood restoration for The Kennedy's, a Shiek in Kentucky and one of the major churches in New York.
But, as he said, home is home. So he moved back.
His wife's mom was part of the last inhabitants of The Blasket Island.
      A fun day!

      Dingle Bay

      April 22 in Ireland ⋅ ☀️ 55 °F

It was the perfect day for a boat tour of Dingle Bay. We got close to some basking sharks and bottlenose dolphins, and there were also gray seals and puffins. Our boat followed the coast past Slea Head to Blasket Island where we saw Cathedral Rock and a beehive hut of the earliest inhabitants. We returned to Dingle for some shopping, lunch at the Dingle Pub, and some ice cream. The weather was beautiful — another great day.Read more

      Day 12 Dingle

      May 6 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

We took a very scenic and picturesque tour of the Dingle Peninsula. Attractions were the 4 mile long Inch Beach; prehistoric Beehive Huts once inhabited by monks; Shea Head; view of the Blasket Islands; and, of course, the town of Dingle. And all the GREEN is incredible!
Tonight we saw "Celtic Steps The Show," a definite highlight. The 6 piece band and 6 dancers were spectacular, playing, singing, and dancing jigs, waltzes, and being very playful.

Travel day photos from Kenmare to Dingle

      July 15, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ 🌬 59 °F

Our driver, Gerrit, was a Dutch man who has lived in Sneem, a small village on the Ring of Kerry, since 2002. He was able to offer different views on the Irish ways of life. As my mom said, Gerrit is a man who doesn't take no for an answer.
Due to the weather, we didn't want to get out. So we just viewed things from the car. Gerrit took us on a road that fits "2 carts and a donkey," and that is generous on the space for sure!
Enjoy these pictures from the warmth of the car.

      Nelizan's Bar Dingle

      July 17, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ 🌧 59 °F

We had nasty pizza at this cool local pub. We thought there was going to be dancers...and there was. But not regular dancing. It was Irish Square Dancing kind of. Pretty fun!
Mom and I played cards, and I kicked her ass multiple times.
We watched the guys take down the pool table and move it. Pretty cool!
Edit to add that this is Irish Session Dancing. Each county in Ireland has their own version, and it is taught to all the locals in the pubs. There are festivals where the different counties get together and dance their specific county session dances. What a cool tradition.

      Dingle

      May 18 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

    • Day 10

      Dingle Sea Safari

      July 16, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 57 °F

What an adventure! We started the day with a 2.5 hour rib boat ride. They provided waterproof gear, as you do get wet!
Mom was a bit nervous. Cory was excited. Water is his happy place.
We secured front row seats. I actually wasn't going to be my normal pushy self and just sit wherever. But Cory wanted the front. It's where you feel the most on the ride.
We saw bottle nose dolphins right away! Then we went off to the Blasket Islands. The main island was inhabited for hundreds of years. They removed the last inhabitants in 1957. You can stay at a B&B there. But there's zero electricity and you have to walk your happy ass up to the house. Bucket list!
We saw a bunch of grey seals basking in the sun. Quit a few came to say hi.
After this we headed to the Islands that I can't pronounce. And since I can't add more than 20 photos, and I took about 1000, I am going to make that a second post.
Mom made such funny squeals the entire trip. It was so damn funny!
The Cliffs and views were stunning. We drive this peninsula tomorrow. It will be cool to see it from a different perspective.
