      Cliffs Edge - Hayley Kiyoko

      2. november 2023, Irland ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

We had a nice breakfast of pastry before meeting Kevin outside of his hotel. He took us to the Cliffs of Moher where we spent the next 3 hours exploring and walking around. The landscape was gorgeous and felt almost intimate in its beauty. Afterwards, we had lunch at the cafe and checked out the Cliffs exhibit. We left for the Wild Atlantic Way and stopped at an incredible beach. On the ride home we passed the Burren, rolling hills over the sea. Eventually we returned to Galway and parted ways with Kevin. Once we dried off, we had Italian at the Milano restaurant nearby. Before going home, Mom bought mittens and socks while Dad and I each picked a sweater. Finally, we headed home and retired for the night.Les mer

Galway Bay - The Irish Tenors

      1. november 2023, Irland ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

This morning, we packed for the next few days before our driver, Kevin, picked us up at 11. The following hours were spent driving across the country (again) with a stop about halfway to Galway. We arrived in Galway city earlier than our flat was ready, so we killed some time at the aquarium. After an hour or so, Kevin dropped us off at our Airbnb. We didn’t spend very long sitting around, instead we headed for the bookstore and a pub for dinner. One lovely meal later, we ended up in another pub for music. By the time we got home, we were pretty tired and went to bed early.Les mer

      Galway

      17. september 2023, Irland ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

      Start spreading the news

      11. september 2023, Irland ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

      Travel day Dingle to Galway

      18. juli 2023, Irland ⋅ ⛅ 68 °F

Alan Barnes picked us up at 8am for our very packed day. He went over our day with us as we left Dingle. The weather report the night before said terrible, terrible rain for our drive. Alan had even sent me an email the evening before saying he hoped he would be able to see the roads!
Well, it was 58 degrees and a bit overcast, the ground was wet, but not horrible.
As we drove, the skies slowly cleared. We had absolutely perfect weather. The best weather day so far! 70 degrees!
Alan told us about his life in Ireland. His mom was Irish, but he was born in England. They moved back to Ireland in 1964. At that time, the country was very poor. They lived with his grandma and had no electricity, no running water and no flush toilets. Every Friday we would get water bucket by bucket from the village well and walk back to take to fill their water tank. He hated Fridays.
He had many stories to share, explained history of the area, and was a pure joy to be with.

      The Connemarra & Galway

      28. mai 2023, Irland ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Our journey to Galway from Cong was through the magnificent Connemarra National Park, an area of sensational beauty that is rugged and sparsely populated.

Galway, our next destination, is the home of the Claddagh ring, something you buy for a loved one. No one bought me one. But we had an order from Sally, which we successfully completed.

Galway is an ancient seaport and city (pop. 70000) on Galway Bay in the North Atlantic Ocean.

It was crowded on Sunday with large crowds enjoying the sunshine, shops and a day at the markets.

It was then off to Limerick for the night.

      The Food Scene

      31. august 2022, Irland ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

We have been loving food tours for a few years now. It is a great way to learn about a city/area of a city and try places we probably would have never found. I have always thought of Irish food as cottage pie, potatoes and stew, Galway Food Tours has changed all that.

Sheena, our amazing tour guide and former chef explained it all to us. Ireland has amazing dairy, meat and produce. Everything is locally sourced and taste like it was just picked. Problem was that until 25 years ago no one really knew how to cook in a way that was not traditional Irish. Then Culinary Irish Folk start traveling to France, Italy and Switzerland learning the tricks of the cheese and meat trades and voila the food scene started. She is on a mission to showcase local Galway and Irish food!

We started at a local coffee shop which is a relatively new concept in a land of tea drinkers we found out. Hipster coffee places are just picking up and from the sample we had, they are good. 2nd stop was a local business that makes pastries and chocolates. For a non chocolate lover they were good but the real highlight was the raspberry croissants made with damn good butter and the raspberry filling was made with raspberries that the owners grow in their back yard. So, so good.

Stop #3 was at 11:15 and was a whiskey sampling of 3 different types with cheese and meat. We had what could be explained as lamb prosciutto which was amazeballs. Like so good I now have a package in my purse. And yes even Ty drank whiskey and before noon. Vacation Ty is spicy. lol.

Stop #4 was maybe the best bang for our buck. We stopped at a famous pub known for the original owner starting what we know now as the SPCA, where we were served a platter of mussels, smoked salmon pate, an oyster, brown bread and a beer. Side bar on brown bread, I am usually not a fan. Brown bread in Canada is nasty. Multigrain is good but brown I can not stand. Irish brown is really yummy. Except that I go in thinking it is pumpernickel and want to make the cringe face but am pleasantly surprised at the end.

We then stopped at a small local restaurant that is known for only cooking with ingredients that can be found in Ireland. We had a small shot of tomatoes so our bodies remembered what vegetables were. Then we were off for ice cream where they had local flavours such as Irish soda break, and Dingle gin and sea salt. I went for the basic strawberry.

All and all a pretty good brunch.

      13 Merchant Rd Airbnb

      18. juli 2023, Irland ⋅ ⛅ 68 °F

Our airbnb in Galway was in a great location! Easy walking to Eyre Square and The Latin Quarter. Our hostess, Marie, was very sweet. A talker and a hugger. The accommodations were so cute and tastefully decorated. The only thing was there was no common room. Since it was 4 bedrooms, we simply all hung out in one room.
Our breakfast was included. But after the first morning, we declined the next two. Mom and I ate some weird breakfast casserole with peas, corn, spinach, egg and potatoes. It was not for us.
All in all, a great spot!

      Eating after 8pm

      29. august 2022, Irland ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

I am convinced not really. Not all pubs serve food and those that do cut off food service at 8pm. Which is great for normal Nadine. But travel Nadine has mussels in the afternoon and then needs a late dinner.

After a quick lay town we strolled back into the Latin corner at 7:30pm. Places were either lined up or closed (some places are closed Sunday-Wednesday…WTF). The pubs we managed to get a seat at came and informed us that the kitchen was closed. Like you are serving beer into the wee hours of the morning your kitchen should be open later. Sadly there was no one to complain to.

It was looking like it would be a McDonalds supper until Ty suggested the hotel. Good call Tyler! OMG the chowder! Chowder #2 was soooo much better than the one in Dublin. The cream was divine and the potatoes…mmm they were cooked to perfection and were baby ones…so good. So good.
