    December 8, 2018 in Israel ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

Our first stop on our pilgrimage was Jaffa which was the first port city in Israel. We spent some time exploring St Peter’s Basilica which has some extraordinary Stain Glass Windows. We also saw the Mediterranean Sea and the old light house. As well at that we also saw Simon of Tanners house, who was believed to be St Peter’s friend while he was spreading the word and teachings of Jesus.Read more

    Jaffa, Mosque & Church

    November 23, 2019 in Israel ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Still disappointed by our poor performance in the first part of the scavenger hunt, we follow the hints all the way to Jaffa, one of the world's ancient port cities. Perched on top of a hill overlooking the Mediterranean, this old town is now part of Tel Aviv but retains a very special vibe.

Upon reaching it, we are immediately charmed by the ancient stone alleys and buildings and, above all, by the impressive mix of mosques, churches and synagogues. Our first stop is indeed Al Bahr Mosque, a a beautiful Islamic building perched on a rock facing a stunningly blue sea.
Not far behind, a stairway leads us to a wide plaza towered by what looks like a Christian church. It's indeed St. Peter's Church!

We are asked to solve a few riddles in the square and we end up discovering minor monuments or artworks like a cute zodiac fountain. The main problem is when we are asked to take a picture in front of a "Smiling Whale"... Because there is none!
Thanks to Google Maps, we eventually find the whale, which is a fountain statue located hundreds of meters away. But what is most annoying is that we have to go back to the church to solve the following quizzes... 🙄
