San Benedetto de Tronto

When I looked out the window this morning it had been raining and the forecast was possible thunderstorms all day. So we had a quick breakfast and set off.
Thankfully the poor weather was behind us and we quickly drove into sunshine until we reached a huge jam on the motorway. First and second gear for half an hour so we turned off and drove to the coast road which as it turned out was not such a good idea for two reasons. The first is that it went through town after town and we never saw the sea at all. The second was we were behind a huge crane lorry with a car in front moving the traffic to the side so once again first and second gear for a long time.
Eventual we arrived at this four star hotel. I thought we should have a treat on our last night in Italy. I think it is worthy of three stars. It has a nice pool and it is across the road from the beach. It has private parking at an extra cost.
The beach has thousands of empty deck chairs. It is probably horrendous in the holiday season.
Tomorrow an easy drive to Ancona for the overnight ferry to Split in Croatia.Read more
