After Tito's death, Yugoslavia disintegrated, and in the following ten years, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and other former Yugoslav member states fell into civil war, and then NATO's large-scale bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, causing countless casualties and property losses, as well as a large number of historic buildings destroyed.
