Castaway Cay

Castaway Cay (pronounced key) was the first private beach for Disney Cruise Line. The island is also known as Gorda Cay.

Disney own the whole island but use only a tiny portion of it for guests, basically 3 beach areas and some cycling/hiking trails. The rest of the island is looked after by Disney as a nature preserve with lots of birds using the island because so much of it is undisturbed.

Woke up still feeling a bit lousy but not super sick, just "annoyingly slightly off" sick.

Breakfast up at the buffet, and i did start with fruit and yogurt, but as its Castaway day, there's Mickey churros, so it would be rude to day no to those on the only day they are available. 😜

It's a little breezy and cloudy, so not a perfect beach day, but tbh that's not the end of the world. It's still warmer than home, though 😆

We got off ship and caught the tram up to Serenity Bay, the adults only beach, and saw both sets of friends we know on this cruise there (Nicole and Shelley; and Eugene and Walter).

It was really breezy but still nice. Few spots of rain, so we put on our waterproofs, at which point it felt like going on a beach holiday in the UK in the summer. In waterproofs, sat on the beach also in swimsuit. We did go for a paddle in the water, and the sun tried to poked through. Heath got ice cream as they didn't have any hot drinks, so he declared ice cream the next best thing. 😁

To be honest, after a little attempt by the sun to come through, the clouds kept getting thicker so we decided to grab lunch, hit the shops and then head back to the ship, capturing some pics of the island and ship on the walk back.

Dinner was back in Coco, and more tortilla chips. Which was lucky as our amazing server forgot to take an order from Heath at first, which was after we'd got to the table for it to be set for the wrong number of people and Heath having a kids menu. 🤣

Poor Dash, so apologetic, and said Heath was the most important person at the table, but I quickly reassured her that he knows his place 😜

The show during dinner was cool. Day of the dead celebration, lots of singing and dancing and some of the skeleton family from Coco.

Dinner was lovely and sat around chatting with Nicole and Shelley awhile and then also with Rodrigo and Dash. Dash wanted to sneak us into her room so she could keep serving us cos we were so calm and easy to get along with (seems like the press preview cruises were full of entitled *&^&s. Eventually we had to go to the room to finish packing and go to bed. Our last towel animal wasn't an animal but a heart. ❤️ our collection from the week was finally complete.Weiterlesen
