Washington, DC

Tourists for a week! This isn't a typical trip for us, but Tom has never been to DC, so we thought it was time! Having explored capital cities in other countries, it's ironic he's never visited his own 🙂. Read more

    Let the fun begin! 🙂

    Sep 18–22, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 72 °F

We departed MSP at 7am. It was a crazy morning, as Tom woke me at 5:27, three minutes before our scheduled Lyft driver! OMG!(Miraculously, I slept through my vibrating alarm.) We made it to the airport a little ragged, but got to our gate with time to spare 🙂. Arrived to a nice day in D.C. -- we are so lucky, with our visit sandwiched between two rainy weekends. We spent the afternoon exploring the monuments and parks on city bikes, with longer stops at Arlington Cemetery and Ford's Theater.Read more

  • Washington Monument

    September 19, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 63 °F

Washington Monument tour - cool views from the 50th floor! I biked to the National Zoo, but unfortunately it was closed -- new shorter hours started last week 😖. Tom visited the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. We had dinner at The Washington Harbour, a pretty and lively area I'm Georgetown.Read more

  • The White House

    September 19, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 70 °F

White house tour to start our day -- so psyched to have gotten in! How fun to be behind the gates. We took our time and really enjoyed it.

  • George Washington's Mount Vernon

    September 20, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 77 °F

We spent almost four hours here, and did the grounds, mansion, and enslaved persons tours. What a beautiful property, and so neat to see the same beautiful views that George Washington did!

  • U.S. Capital & Library of Congress

    September 21, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 68 °F

Started our day with a tour of the U.S. Capital. Our visit coincided with Ukraine President Zelensky's day in DC, but we didn't bump into him 😉. An added bonus was getting to see the Reading Room at the Library of Congress which was open for just one hour. Wow--what a beautiful building! We also had passes for the Senate Gallery -- not a lot going on in there (only a few senators, although one was Joe Manchin), but interesting to see. Note, no cell phones and no pointing in the Senate Gallery 🥴.Read more

  • The Pentagon

    September 21, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 77 °F

The tour of the Pentagon was 'just OK' -- not quite what we were expecting. We walked 1.5 miles through the Pentagon building, hearing an overview of the branches of the armed services and a 9/11 tribute. I was expecting to learn more about the workers and work that goes on there. It's like a small city really -- 26,000 workers -- so shopping and amenities, including their own DMV are on-site.Read more
