Eine andere Einrichtunng der ähnlichen Art, ist das Nifrel. Der Nifrel? Wie auch immer. Das Nifrel ist auch ein Aquarium, allerdings hat es einen weniger informativen als eher künstlerischen Zugang. Die Fische sind oft in kleinen Tanks, die rund sind und von allen Seiten begehbar. Es geht um Themen wie Form und Farbe, die durch unterschiedliche Plastiken in den Tanks hervorgehoben werden. Mir persönlich sind allerdings auch leichte Zweifel gekommen, wie artgerecht das sein kann. Ins Nifrel bin ich nicht mit Renee, sondern mit Shoko gegangen, einer Japanerin die ich über eine App kennengelernt habe. Das hatte nicht nur den Vorteil, schon einmal jemanden in Osaka kennenzulernen, sondern auch die Schilder lesen zu können. Japan ist leider noch sehr weit davon entfernt, für englishsprachige Touristen geeignet zu sein. Der größte Unterschied zum Kaiyukan liegt darin, dass im Nifrel auch Landlebewesen und Vögel behandelt werden, von denen ein großteil in einem begehbaren Gehege wohnt, sodass die Tukane und ähnliches immer mal über einem ihre Runden fliegen. Die größte Attraktion und das Tier mit dem Werbung gemacht wird, im Kayukan die Walhaie, ist der weiße Bengaltiger, der wirklich ein schönes Tier ist. Allerdings wird wieder einmal deutlich, das Tiger auch nur große Katzen sind.

A very simliar location is the Nifrel. The Nifrel is also an aquarium, but instead of a scientific approach to the animals, with signs and such, it's a more artistic approach, with emphasis on single animals or small groups which are displayed in circular tanks you can walk around. Also there are special rooms forr shape and colour, with small installations in the tank itself to support that feature. To be honest I had concerns about the well-being of the animals, as they were in very small spaces with not much flora or anything. I didn't go with Renee, but with Shoko, a japanese girl I met over an app on my phone. It was not only a good way to meet with someone from Osaka, but also to find out what the text on the few sings meant, since Japan lacks english translations everywhere in museums or similar. The biggest difference to the Kaiyukan is the addition of animal that live on land. Most of them live in a room that you can walk through, so some tucans might fly over you for example. The biggest attraction in the Nifrel, Kaiyukan had it's whalesharks, was the white bengal tiger, a beautiful animal. At the same time it also showed that a tiger is just a big cat in the end.Read more
