      Ferry to Shodō-shima

      November 20, 2023 in Japan ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

The word “shima” in Japanese means “island”. Japan is an archipelago of 14,125 islands. According to Wikipedia, approximately 430 are inhabited. The 4 largest islands are: Hokkaido in the north, Honshu with the most populated city in the world, Tokyo (37 millions), Kyushu with its very active volcanoes and Shikoku, the smallest and the “wildest” of the 4.
This morning, we left Shikoku and took a ferry to Shodō-shima, an island known for its olive groves. Coastal roads on Shidō-shima are scenic with great vistas of the Seto Inland Sea; the interior that we want to explore, is mountainous.
Bicycle rentals (standard, road or electric) are easy, affordable and many tourists are using them. Very cool!
