• Międzyzdroje Day 2

    July 3 in Poland ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

Today we woke up to overcast and very windy! Yesterday the water was calm, but there were much bigger waves today! We had a relaxing morning then headed out to wander a bit and found a small thing for the National park here! Lots of tents with lots of information which was nice, though all in Polish so could not read it. Then wandered through town to the boardwalk along the beach as I figured we could walk against the wind on that then walk back along the beach with the wind to our back. The plan was to walk until lunch then eat lunch on the beach and head back…only it was way too windy to eat lunch on the beach! So we ate at a view point (the water photo with the trees). On the way there we stopped at a different view point and right there there was a life guard swimming out to retrieve a kitesurfing thing. The people were standing on the edge and he brought it back to them (though it was broken - not sure if the water did that or what happened), but it was interesting as it was shallow enough the lifeguard could walk in between waves, but then he had to dive through the waves. You can see him out in the water in the second water pic (8th photo). So that was fun. Looked like so much work trying to get through the waves.

After lunch we did wander down the beach a bit, but the wind was so strong! We cut in before we got back to town and saw some new residential street and found even more of the bird sculptures! I thought they were the same as the ones in the other town, Kołobrzeg, but looking back at my photos they are definitely a different artist! These ones all look a bit worried or stressed (it’s the eyes) and I hadn’t remembered that from the other ones and know I see why - they are different! We have a couple more to try and find tomorrow.

We did get some gelato - mint chocolate chip for Raymond and mojito for me and I took a bite and was like this was a mistake. It was okay at first, but then it lingers and was not good. Very peppermint which I don’t love, but Raymond tried it and he is a fan and he was also like that is not good. So…I got a different one when we found it! Kaktus which is an ice cream treat you can get in the grocery store, but this was strawberry lemon with bits of stuff that it has on it (I’m not really sure what it is), but that was much better!

Then back to our place to relax for a bit. Tried to sit on the balcony, but the wind was crazy when we got back! There is a clear glass edge that is pretty high, but the wind was almost blowing over our water bottles and my flip flops and it was a lot. But the sun did come out at times and then I sat out there enjoying it and saw a kite surfer and when he caught a wave going out he flew soooo high into the air! And seemed to just float there like they could fly away! Then only slowly came back down to the water - it was crazy!

We had stopped by the Georgian bakery again when we were out earlier, but they were out of bread, but making more. I should have taken a photo then, but I didn’t, but we went back later and they cook the bread in a big clay oven which you can see in the photo (the Georgian flag on it - red and white with crosses). The guy was stretching the dough out on a pillow looking thing, then using that to press the dough to the side of the oven. I’ve seen videos online of bread made that way, but not in person until now! So that was fun.

Now we are just sitting enjoying the water and the wind. There is a concert going on not far, but the wind is so loud we can’t really hear it! It was a good day, but when we were out walking I was like this is like when we come up in winter! I brought my fuzzy winter jacket which is very warm, but didn’t think I would need it, but to sit on the balcony I do! Tomorrow is supposed to be windy again so at shall see what we end up doing.
