Międzyzdroje
July 2 in Poland ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C
Today we headed up to the Polish coast once again to Międzyzdroje. We were here the same time last year and we really enjoyed it so we decided to come back again. It is probably my favorite town on the coast as we can get a place that looks out over the water and there are some good snack options and I just like the vibe.
We got here early in the day as we could check in early and it was sunny and gorgeous! But by the time we ate lunch and I was ready to head out to run some errands it had gotten overcast. Still warm though and I was glad I brought my travel dress with me! I almost didn’t as it isn’t supposed to be that warm the rest of the weekend, but I definitely needed it today.
Last year there was a music festival happening the first weekend of July when we were here and we could sit on the balcony and listen to the concert since it was close by, but when I tried to see if it would be happening again I couldn’t find anything. Well we arrived and there was music playing from the stage just down the way! The music festival is happening this weekend again! It’s so nice to just relax and listen and look out over the water!
Raymond had some work to do after lunch so I headed out on an adventure to get some food. The one grocery store Lidl was having vegan week in Berlin with lots of new vegan things so I looked to see if they were doing that here as well and they are! But with different vegan things to try! So I headed there and bought way too much stuff to have for dinners. I had my backpack and two other bags full of stuff! We had pizza for dinner with a little blueberry cheesecake which was pretty good.
I also stopped at the Georgian bakery we had found last time to get some bread and they had these filled breads too so I had to try them. I got a giant herb bread, a chocolate banana and a strawberry rhubarb filled bread (they were both so heavy! All the filling!) for 2.50! So cheap! But so tasty! We had to try the chocolate banana and it was really good. Pieces of banana in chocolate - delicious! And the bread was so good. We are going to have to go back and get more before we head home!
Then I got back to our place and just when I got comfortable out on the balcony it started to rain! And has been raining off and on since then. We went out for a walk after dinner and it was fine, until we turned around and then it started raining pretty good! But now it is starting to clear up some here, but you can see the rain in the distance and some color on the horizon even though sunset is not for another hour. Not sure what we will get up to this weekend as it is supposed to be really windy so we might just relax and watch the water. We shall see!Read more
Międzyzdroje Day 2
July 3 in Poland ⋅ 🌬 18 °C
Today we woke up to overcast and very windy! Yesterday the water was calm, but there were much bigger waves today! We had a relaxing morning then headed out to wander a bit and found a small thing for the National park here! Lots of tents with lots of information which was nice, though all in Polish so could not read it. Then wandered through town to the boardwalk along the beach as I figured we could walk against the wind on that then walk back along the beach with the wind to our back. The plan was to walk until lunch then eat lunch on the beach and head back…only it was way too windy to eat lunch on the beach! So we ate at a view point (the water photo with the trees). On the way there we stopped at a different view point and right there there was a life guard swimming out to retrieve a kitesurfing thing. The people were standing on the edge and he brought it back to them (though it was broken - not sure if the water did that or what happened), but it was interesting as it was shallow enough the lifeguard could walk in between waves, but then he had to dive through the waves. You can see him out in the water in the second water pic (8th photo). So that was fun. Looked like so much work trying to get through the waves.
After lunch we did wander down the beach a bit, but the wind was so strong! We cut in before we got back to town and saw some new residential street and found even more of the bird sculptures! I thought they were the same as the ones in the other town, Kołobrzeg, but looking back at my photos they are definitely a different artist! These ones all look a bit worried or stressed (it’s the eyes) and I hadn’t remembered that from the other ones and know I see why - they are different! We have a couple more to try and find tomorrow.
We did get some gelato - mint chocolate chip for Raymond and mojito for me and I took a bite and was like this was a mistake. It was okay at first, but then it lingers and was not good. Very peppermint which I don’t love, but Raymond tried it and he is a fan and he was also like that is not good. So…I got a different one when we found it! Kaktus which is an ice cream treat you can get in the grocery store, but this was strawberry lemon with bits of stuff that it has on it (I’m not really sure what it is), but that was much better!
Then back to our place to relax for a bit. Tried to sit on the balcony, but the wind was crazy when we got back! There is a clear glass edge that is pretty high, but the wind was almost blowing over our water bottles and my flip flops and it was a lot. But the sun did come out at times and then I sat out there enjoying it and saw a kite surfer and when he caught a wave going out he flew soooo high into the air! And seemed to just float there like they could fly away! Then only slowly came back down to the water - it was crazy!
We had stopped by the Georgian bakery again when we were out earlier, but they were out of bread, but making more. I should have taken a photo then, but I didn’t, but we went back later and they cook the bread in a big clay oven which you can see in the photo (the Georgian flag on it - red and white with crosses). The guy was stretching the dough out on a pillow looking thing, then using that to press the dough to the side of the oven. I’ve seen videos online of bread made that way, but not in person until now! So that was fun.
Now we are just sitting enjoying the water and the wind. There is a concert going on not far, but the wind is so loud we can’t really hear it! It was a good day, but when we were out walking I was like this is like when we come up in winter! I brought my fuzzy winter jacket which is very warm, but didn’t think I would need it, but to sit on the balcony I do! Tomorrow is supposed to be windy again so at shall see what we end up doing.Read more
Międzyzdroje Day 3
Jul 4–10 in Poland ⋅ 🌬 18 °C
Today was a perfect day! We woke up to sunny skies and a bit of wind, but nothing like yesterday! We had a lazy morning then walked along the beach till lunchtime and ate on the beach today. So nice! There were a lot more people on the beach today relaxing and enjoying.
After lunch we headed out to try and find the other birds and found more than we expected! The last one on the bison was up at the train station and man it was hot up there! It is uphill a little bit from the beach and there was no wind and I was dying in my layers! So after that we walked back to town and got some ice cream and a cold beverage to cool down! I had vanilla red current and a strawberry lemonade - both were delicious! The lemonade was not very sweet which I like and was very strawberry and lemony. Perfect! Raymond had maple walnut and he wasn’t as happy as he said the maple wasn’t a strong flavor, and a small beer.
After I had some Pokémons to play on the walk back to our place and then relaxing on the balcony. It was perfect. You can people watch on the beach and the promenade, look out at the water, whatever! I did see a kite fly from the beach and the string must have broken and it floated down right onto the road by our place. I was watching it a while waiting to see if someone came for it and the cars at first were avoiding it, but then they just started driving over it. People would walk by looking at it…for a long time it just sat there. I had just given up the idea that someone was going to come get it when a guy ran up to it and grabbed it. It must have taken a little bit to find where it was at.
After dinner we wandered along the water again and out the pier and saw a bunch of lifeguards in the water doing drills or something. And on the pier there was a bar with live music that was so loud! A bit too loud for me, but there were people dancing which was fun. Then back to our place for a cherry chocolate bread treat from the Georgian bakery! We love that place!
This evening there is a big concert down the way so hopefully we can hear it tonight since it’s not so windy! We are relaxing on the balcony again and even though the sun is going down it is not that cold yet. Such a wonderful day! I love just wandering by the water!Read more
Home Again
July 5 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C
Woke up today to a rainy, windy, overcast day. It did stop raining for a bit before checkout when we walked to get bread…until we got the bread and we had to walk back to our place in the pouring rain as we didn’t have time to wait for it to let up…so we were soaked and decided just head home instead of wandering after check out as it was still very windy and dark clouds.
One positive of leaving early and getting home earlier? We found a new to us little ice cream place on the walk home from dropping off the car that had some fun vegan options! I went with pineapple basil which was delicious and very basil, Raymond went with walnut which he was like this is much better than the one yesterday!! He was also like why have we never seen this place before?? Well, because they close early so they are usually closed when we walk by. So that was a win :)
Overall it was a great weekend. I loved being by the water so I always enjoy it! And I was glad the rainy day was when we were leaving!Read more
