The Motherland Monument

It was an early start to get out to the southern end of Kiev city this morning in order to see the Motherland Monument before the crowds came. It was definitely worth it! The monument was opened in 1981 by the Soviet Union as a way to celebrate the soviets victory over Nazi Germany! The monument is 102m high and the sword alone is over 16m in length. Around the monument is a collection of statues dedicated to the Soviet Union battle to reclaim Ukraine from Nazi Germany.
