    Finally landed in Ukraine, new country and a new stamp for the passport! The weather is lovely (34*) and just have the task of getting to the city centre!

    The main square of Kiev, site of many revolutions and conflicts over the years including, the 1990 student "Revolution on Granite", the 2001 "Ukraine without Kuchma", the 2004 Orange Revolution, and the 2013–14 Euromaidan... oh and despite its history of political violence it was also the site of the Eurovision fan zone two years ago!Read more

  • The Motherland Monument

    It was an early start to get out to the southern end of Kiev city this morning in order to see the Motherland Monument before the crowds came. It was definitely worth it! The monument was opened in 1981 by the Soviet Union as a way to celebrate the soviets victory over Nazi Germany! The monument is 102m high and the sword alone is over 16m in length. Around the monument is a collection of statues dedicated to the Soviet Union battle to reclaim Ukraine from Nazi Germany. Though also served as a propaganda tool of the USSR depicting the key roles of the comrades, to farm, to educate, to fight and to work.Read more

  • Kiev Pechersk Lavra

    A UNESCO world heritage site, this is a major monastery site for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and home to over 100 monks. However, the site is most known for its winding caves that stretch underneath the many religious buildings. These caves are only lit by candle light, made for a very eery experience.Read more

    Amazing trip around the area of Chernobyl, now completely deserted due to the disaster that happened here, we ended the trip in the city of Pripyat which after evacuation the citizens never returned.

  • Revolutionary Ukraine Tour

    Started today with a tour of central Ukraine and the history behind the EuroMaidan revolution that took place in Kiev between 2013-14. The tour was very informative, particular after learning about it late last year, it was fascinating to actually visit the site of the revolution, and learn the history from a guide who had been part of it.Read more

  • Presidents Office and House of Chimaeras

    Next stop was the office of the President of Ukraine and also his official resident the House with Chimaeras or Horodecki House. Art Nouveau in design, the house features an uncountable number of animal figures applied to the exterior of the building! Before becoming the residence of the president it served as the HQ for the communist party.Read more
