    Another beautiful day of walking as we approach our goal. More hills than anticipated but the weather was perfect. Kathy and I took a side trip to an artist's studio and home. It was beautiful. We shared a cup of mint tea with him and talked about life and travel. As we approached the tiny hill town of Pintin, we knew our husbands were waiting with cold beer and pizza🍻🍕😊 It doesn't get much better.

    Today’s 13 mile walk was very pleasant with mostly downhill walking with cloudy skies and cool weather and as always the cold beer 🍺 waiting for us in the little cozy town of Pintín was great, it’s hard to believe but we are down to 5 days before we get to our goal of reaching Santiago de Compostela 🙏

    A Peña the final 100k

    We woke up to a beautiful sunrise to start our day. We arrived to Sarria hopeful for breakfast, first stop coffee machine broken, second stop completely ignored for at least five minutes 🤦🏻‍♀️Third time was the charm, wonderful breakfast made by José working his tail off.
    The remainder of the walk was filled with new walkers and conversations along with seeing pilgrims we’ve met along the way.
    We finished with 13 miles and we’re staying in a private home in the town with the 100k marker. I can’t believe we’re almost done, it’s kind of bittersweet.
    I’m going to continue to absorb the beauty, people and time on the Caminó, every step is for my Dad (Martin) praying 🙏🏼 continuously for his health and comfort and my Mom for peace and trust in the Lord. Our devotional today is perfect for them and us. Joshua 1:9

    Pintín to A Peña day # 34

    Today’s 13 mile walk was fairly easy and it was nice to give these old bones a rest,tonight we are the only guest staying in a traditional Galician house. We are down to 100K (60 miles) to Santiago de Compostela and all of us are pretty excited about that, I feel blessed to be able to do this adventure of a lifetime with the love of my life Kathy 🙏

    We started a couple kilometers outside of Sarria this morning and made a wonderful day of about 13 miles to our own stone cabin in the countryside.

    Many "rules of thumb" are thrown at you by "they" when you plan to walk the camino. One of them is to prepare yourself for meeting the onrush of "new" pilgrims in Sarria. You see, in order to get official recognition for walking the camino, you must start around Sarria to complete at least 100 kilometers.
    So today, we saw many, many, many new pilgrims. All in bright clean clothes, carrying very little in the way of backpacks. What we are told to prepare for is our sense of judgement, that somehow these new pilgrims just dont understand how tough it is to walk all the way from France. Now, I'll admit to being as petty and judgemental as just about anyone, and believe me, ive had time to witness it, so I was prepared to meet the challenge, or at least witness my failure.
    Surprisingly, on this day, I was charged by the energy, the optimism, the clean clothes. They lifted me.
    5 days and less than 100k to go and I was buoyed by the spirit of these new pilgrims, buoyed by the spirit of the camino. No judgements, just joy.
    The camino provides.

    Then we had beer and nice dinner.
    Tomorrow, we do it again.

    Today was not my favorite day, the morning started out beautiful, as we made it to Portomarín with the throngs of people it just went downhill both literally and figuratively. We did have a lot of uphill climbing too, we didn’t have a rest or food until mile 9.5 🤷🏻‍♀️
    We kept plugging along and finished the day with 15.50 miles.
    Best part of the day was our cold beer, we’re going to dinner soon. It’s been raining most of the afternoon so we’re just lounging around. Tomorrow is a new day which will be perfect for having “a good day”.

    maybe it’s the rigors of doing this for 35 days or maybe it’s the anticipation that this journey is almost over,we are scheduled to arrive in S de C on Wednesday afternoon. I’m looking forward to going home to my balmy PV.

    Today was an interesting day. Not much to photograph but plenty of people. I let my judgements wash over me with their accompanying emotions, and disperse. Love, gratitude, annoyance, awe, curiosity, annoyance, joy, annoyance... you get the idea😊
    As always, there was cold beer waiting at the end of the day. Three more days of walking.

    Up with the mists this morning to complete our 15 mile day. I hesitate to say it, but with three days left, we're pretty much just trying to get this thing done. The country side is beautiful, the weather is helping out, but we're just plain looking to the end.

    Im still having fun every day. I picked up a blister yesterday and its not bothering me. We are having our laundry done for us as I write this and we had our compulsory days end beer a couple hours ago. Life is perfect. Its just that in 3 days I finish walking almost 500 miles and that seems to be the only thing on my mind.

    Today was a fabulous day, it was a misty morning when we started. There were a lot of people on the Camino today, we ran into a huge group of middle school kids walking. They brought a lot of energy to the trail. We definitely have had some experience’s trying to get coffee or food the last few days 🤦🏻‍♀️but all in all today was a good day! We had a good lunch Jim got to indulge in pulpo 🐙. Melide is famous for it.
    Our accommodations are wonderful and there was even a pool. It felt great to soak our feet and legs. T-minus two days and counting.    Leia mais

    Another misty morning to start our 3rd from last day on the Camino. The mornings have been so beautiful. Quiet and peaceful. Jim and I found the only open place for coffee about 3 miles into our walk. As Kathy mentioned, it's been more challenging lately to find places to eat. A couple of hours after we start, the way becomes more crowded. There are so many people doing the final 100 km that at times it's hard to keep our pace. We're meeting new people and reconnecting with some old friends. It's hard to believe it's almost over. We stopped for the day in the small city of Melide which is famous for pulpo (octopus.) Jim ordered it and we all tried it. I thought it was surprisingly good. Our accommodations for tonight included a pool!!! The water was cold but it felt so good on my legs. We'll probably head out for dinner later since this town seems to have so many delicious looking options.

    Today’s 14 mile walk was actually very pleasant and the place were we’re spending the night has a pool that Kathy and I took the opportunity to use,the water was cold but it sure felt good on these old bones. It’s amazing to think that our journey will be over in a couple of days, this has been such a blessing to meet so many people of all ages and from so many different countries and backgrounds with the same goal to finish the Camino in Santiago de Compostela 🙏

    The semi autonomous region of Spain known as Galicia has been a different experience to me that Castilla y Leon or Navarre. The latter two seemed to be predominantly wine producing, the people generally seemed friendly to us and many of the larger cities we walked through were there. Galicia, which we are walking through now seems more rough hewn. The towns are almost entirely pathways for the cattle to get from field to field. The people seem harder, more cattle and dairy farming the further east. Galicia has a couple dishes that they are known for, a soup, which seems similar to italian wedding soup but without chicken, cheeses and octopus served with boiled potatoes. We have had several opportunities to eat the soup and cheeses and we have really enjoyed them. I have been looking forwatd to trying the octopus "pulpo" and today after checking in to our accommodations we set out to find beer. We settled on a corner "pulporia"--yes, there are bars that specialize in it--after being beckoned by the pulpo guy in the front, grilling and chopping and rustling up customers (it reminded us of home) and I got to try it. It was amazing, the boiled potatoes were the best I've had, ever. I ate my fill of both. We also had a cheese plate (meh) and some fried peppers (like sushito peppers). What an amazing end to a great day. Yeah, and beer too.
    We are really getting down to it, we expect to enter Santiago on Wednesday, about 30-35 miles from here.

    Today started with a beautiful sunrise from our room, we left knowing that we only have today and tomorrow to finish our pilgrimage.
    Javier and I really took time to stop and enjoy every moment. I’m so grateful for my hubby and it’s so nice he’s fluent in the language here.
    It was humid and warm today, it makes me miss home in PV.
    We shared conversations and we also walked alone in our own heads for a bit, but ultimately we walked side by side enjoying our surroundings and the people.
    Our accommodations are wonderful we shared our traditional ice cold beer with Jim and Melanie it’s amazing how delicious these cold beers are each day.
    We all met for an early dinner it was truly delicious. We toasted to our journey and surviving 37 days so far together and still liking each other ❤️
    We are grateful to have such wonderful friends, we accept each other just as we are, the good, the bad and even my lousy singing🤣.
    I look forward to our final miles tomorrow and seeing our journey coming to fruition and meeting up with the friends we have made along the way.

    It's finally here. Tomorrow will be our last day of walking as we complete our pilgrimage from St. Jean Pied du Port, in France, to Santiago de Compostela, in Spain. For the last few days I've been so focused on finishing that the reality of completing this monumental task hasn't set in. Right now my emotions are all over the place. I'm expecting it to be bittersweet. What an amazing experience this has been. I'll let you know how my story ends tomorrow.

    Today’s 18 mile walk through rain and mud the whole 18 miles,of climbing up just to go down and then climb up again to reach our goal of reaching S de C was accomplished! we walked 490 miles (790kilometers) in 38 days
    I feel proud of us, we talked about doing the Camino,we prepared physically,we planned and we went out and did it!! I feel blessed to have shared this adventure with my loving wife Kathy and dear friends Jim and Melanie.

    Words seem inadequate to describe this experience. I can tell you that we walked in the rain and mud all day (our first and only day of really bad weather) and that somehow it seemed appropriate. I can tell you that we saw some friends along the way and heard an amazing story of a synchronicity the Camino provided. This kind of thing happens here. I can tell you that we all cried when we walked through the arch and heard the music. The rain stopped before we got to the square which was good because there were people we needed to hug. We were all overcome. I can tell you that I felt 100 different emotions at once (I'm still feeling them) but words can never describe this experience.

    Zero day Santiago de Compostela

    We didn’t have to get up and walk today. My body naturally woke up around 5:30am even though we stayed up until 11:30pm last night.
    We enjoyed our breakfast, coffee and churros for me.
    Javier and I then attended Mass at 9:30am and then stayed in the square waiting and watching our friends arrive.
    We met up with Chris and Maureen and enjoyed another coffee as we shared stories and reminisced about our Caminó experience.
    I then got a permanent souvenir, a new tattoo.
    We then went and had Mexican food in Spain, it did the job especially all the pickled jalapeños we added. It didn’t compare to home but we all really did enjoy.
    Tomorrow we part ways with our companions, we’re off to Vigo and Porto and they’re heading to Lisbon.
    The four amigos will reunite back home in Vallarta soon and we look forward to a lifetime of adventures together 💜
