    Uluru

    Finally made it to Uluru (Ayers Rock) in the Outback, something I've wanted to see since I was a kid.

    South Island pt. 1

    Took a ferry from the north island to the south island, then a bus down the east coast. Then a nice scenic train over the mountains to the west coast where I rented a car for the rest of the trip. All of NZ was impressive, but if you can only visit one, make it the south island. Incredible landscapes of every sort.Read more

    This is an area with a lot of traditional Māori culture (the indigenous people of New Zealand).

    Auckland is home to a lot of world class sport sailing.     My first day in New Zealand and my last day on the Volendam. I had a great time on this cruise! The two months actually flew by.

    Bora Bora

    Wow, what can I say? I'm not sure anywhere can top the natural beauty of Bora Bora. Yes, the water really did look like that! I didn't adjust these photos at all - I've never seen anything like it. A highlight of the whole trip so far for sure.Read more

    Pitcairn Island

    February 18 on the Pitcairn Islands ⋅ ☀️ 79 °F

    Pitcairn Island is one of the most remote inhabited places on Earth and has a fascinating history. If you've heard of the mutiny on the Bounty in 1789, this is where most of the mutineers decided to live out their lives. Today, some of their descendants are still there, and the island has a total population of around 45. Only very small boats can access its port, but we were lucky enough to have many of the residents come aboard our ship for a day to meet us and tell us what life is like there. The book "Mutiny on the Bounty" by Peter FitzSimons is an amazing read if you want to know the whole story.Read more

It looked about twice as tall as the ship, which would be ~300 ft.The black dots lower-right are penguins

    Antarctica pt. 1

    January 30, Bransfield Strait ⋅ ☁️ 37 °F

    We cruised around Antarctica for four days, so I'm splitting this up into two parts. The first day we had pretty low visibility so I didn't get many good photos. But the next few days things cleared up, and it really was spectacular. I've seen mountains and I've seen snow, but the scale of everything here is just beyond belief. Snow pack hundreds of feet deep and icebergs bigger than the ship, it's impossible to convey the enormity of everything. I've tried to capture some of the magic of it all with photos and videos, but they just can't come close to doing it justice, it has to be seen to be believed. And the perfect still silence of everything is something I'll always remember.Read more

    The First Ice

    This was the first sea ice we encountered. Almost full time daylight this far south, this was about 10:30 pm. I had just noticed a few floating pieces and then suddenly it was everywhere. Really a cool moment.Read more

    Drake Passage

    Crossing from the Drake Passage into Antarctic waters, a notoriously rough section of ocean but something I always wanted to do. This was awesome!
