    Traveling Day

    May 7, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 86 °F

Yesterday, I flew from TYR to DFW then a quick layover to fly MIA. Thankfully there was no one in the middle seat.

I got a transfer from MIA to the Best Western hotel. I settled in. Took a nap. A zoom call.

Then an afternoon with Dorothy. I’ve known Dorothy since 1986. We laughed. We walked down memory lane and we ate dinner together. Dorothy still lives in Santa Cruz with Jake. They had a 48 hour layover here and being so close to her, I switched my flight to 1 day soon. Yeah. What a special friend.

We closed the night with a FaceTime visit with Ellen and a fone call to Karen. Each called then “Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Jake”. My heart smiled-such respect, since they knew them as children living on the mission field.

  • Leaving Mia

    May 9, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 84 °F

Arrived and was able to settle into my room. Our first session was down in the conference room.

We met with our small group. My leader, Kathy from Wisconsin was Ellen’s small group 10 years ago at a stateside retreat in Colorado.

    Small world. Big family

  • Day 2

    May 10, 2024 on the Bahamas ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

Our first day was mixed with meeting new friends and reconnecting with old friends.

After our evening session, I took Elisa around to show her some key concepts of the cruise ship. I was particularly looking for ice cream. I didn’t want to have to pay for it. We found

    I met the cruise director!

  • Sea Day & Off the Ship

    May 12, 2024, North Atlantic Ocean ⋅ ☁️ 79 °F

The Thrive conference was great. There were about 45 global workers in attendance that included 840 years of over seas experience. Wow!

Elisa Sywulka was my roommate. Each day we had meetings and small group. I got my haircut, facial, message and also was able to do some cross stitching. The last night we were able to watch Grease.

On disembarkation day, I helped Elisa off the ship and then meet up with Steve, ride with them to the rental car center and then transfer over to Miami. I met up with Bonnie and finally with Glenn and Sarah.

Tomorrow we get on the NCL SKY.

  • Day 2 Sea Day

    May 15, 2024 in Dominican Republic ⋅ 🌬 82 °F

We had a very relaxing day. I got up just about sunrise. I adventured up to the deck 11 to the Spinnaker Lounge to relax, morning devotions and some cross stitching. Glenn was up in the gym and did 1/2 hour of bicycling. We then weighed ourselves.

We are breakfast in the main dining room and then to the atrium to met our consegeir, Herbert. He is our “go-to-person” if we need anything.

Glenn and I discovered more of the ship. We attended the 11:00am session of “how the run a floating hotel”.

At noon we were at the 1/2 session where latitude members could be the officers. We met Wanda. She’s from DC area and is a retired sign language interpreter. Very interesting job she has now. She gets assignments to be translator on NCL ships. Paid to travel and help the guests out.

We finally ran into Sarah and Bonnie as they were finishing their lunch in the main dining room. We had a varied afternoon. Glenn was helping Sarah and her internet connection.

Glenn and I ate at cagney’s steak restaurant for dinner. I wore my fancy colorful new long pants. Glenn dressed up too. Lamb shanks, salad wedge, onion soup and chocolate cake was what Glenn ate. I had the same exact thing, but I had steak and butter scotch cheese cake instead.

We listened to Ray sing Elton John and Billy Joel tones up in Spinnaker. I went to bed while Glenn got to the 9:30 showing.

Santo Domingo is our Thursday stop.

  • Day 3. Puerta Plata Dominican Republic

    May 16, 2024 in Dominican Republic ⋅ ☀️ 82 °F

I got up at 5:30 and walked up to the Spinnaker Lounge to get some internet minutes and also read and cross stitch.

Beautiful day here in Puerto Plata. 80 degrees. Hot.

Glenn and I took a tuk tuk to the tourist area and then we walked to the umbrella street. We had 2 goals today. 1) Find a tapiceria to repair my Texas HEB bag (cheaper here than in the states) and 2) a barbershop 💈 so Glenn could get his hair cut.

The umbrella street is lovely. Bugimbilla flowers. Lovely

We found a second-rate shop, but it did the job to get the seamstress to sew up and reinforce the bag seams. $5.00

NOTE: the two guys carrying a mattress. The owner refused to repair it!

  • Day 4 Saint Thomas

    May 17, 2024 on the U.S. Virgin Islands ⋅ ☀️ 84 °F

I got up at 5am and spent 2 hours reading and cross stitching. I saw the sun rise at 5:45.

Glenn brought me some watermelon after he did his daily 30minutes on the bicycle.

Since St Thomas is US VIRGIN Islamd, I was able to use my internet data package.

We even talked to Dad on FaceTime. We were talking to Tom and Cheryl from NJ.

I went to a craft class called Pearl diamond art

The 4 of us took a taxi/bus along the St Thomas island.

  • Day 5 St John Antigua

    May 18, 2024 in Antigua and Barbuda ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

I woke up and saw the sunrise at 5:30am. Glenn and I had breakfast off the back end of NCL Sky. We watched the boat dock.

We rented a car for 60.00 a day and drove around the island, it’s British, so we were driving on the opposite side of the road. Glenn did very well.

We’ve learned, just follow the vehicle in front of you. And we spotted a tour bus and followed them. Stopping at a zip line place, we got connected to the internet and also for a Diet Coke.

We continued on to Turners beach where we relaxed and enjoyed another drink. It’s hot here! Beautiful island.

We returned the car earlier than expected. Glenn needed $ from the ATM

  • Day 6 Saint Maartan

    May 19, 2024 in Sint Maarten ⋅ ☀️ 82 °F

Again I woke up early to read and do my cross stitch. Glenn joined me and rode the bicycle in the gym.

We shared a rental car to drive to the Island church. Nice service. Then we changed into our swim suites in the hotel bathroom lobby. We headed straight to Moho beach which is at the base of St Maarten airport, where flights land and take off closely to the beach.

I loved watching the planes land. I know my grandkids would really love watching the airplanes fly directly over. Cool! Awesome!

  • Day 9 Great Stir Cay

    May 22, 2024 on the Bahamas ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

We enjoyed the private island. I didn’t take my phone, so we got no photos.

The water was cool, relaxing and refreshing. We were back on the ship by 12:30. Now time to pack up.

  • Day 10 Florida Everglades

    May 23, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 90 °F

We took an Everglades excursion that drops us off at the Miami airport.

Very fascinating. The guide was very informative!

We were able to take the 3:30pm flight instead of the delayed 6pm flight back to DFW. Then to the South remote parking lot to get the RAV4, to chic-fil-lay and Aldi’s before reaching dad’s place. We finally made it back to Tyler after dropping off Sarah at her home in Van.

In summary, the trip was relaxing and fun. We met some new friends and enjoyed meeting the staff on the NCL Sky.
