  • Full day of traveling

We left Tyler at 5:45am. The girls were great getting into the van. They kinda slept until sunrise.

We had a long break in Paris at the McDonald’s where I took the curlers out of their hairs and put it up in ponytails. Precious.

We took the left over pancakes and burritos and had them for lunch at the roadside Welcome Center in Joplin, Missouri. There was even a nice playland.

We’re staying in the basement of Dan and Nancy Shotts home who happen to be out of town. Ideal location and nice setup with 2 bedrooms downstairs. Perfect. It even comes with toys.

We brought all our sheets/towels and bedding.

  • Full Day in Kansas City

    29 Julai 2023, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☀️ 86 °F

It started out with an attempt to look for local garage sales. We struck out.

Then we made our way over to Blue Springs to see Gary and Pamela Barden (friends from MBI) and then Bill and Jennifer Hildenbrand who we work with member care. They really loved the grandkids.

We got a note to drop by Phil and Lori O’Day who fed us lunch and had great conversation. We even had a concert by 2 MKs from Russia.

We were down to 1 diaper, so we stopped by the grocery store and supper supplies for a picnic dinner at the park.

Near the Shotts is this perfect playground that we found. The girls enjoyed it.

Next, bath time and curling Elizabeth’s and Annie’s hair. They’re slipping on a pallet in the guest room.

I’ve never done this before: as we were going to bed, Amanda had pooped in her diaper and was still sleeping. So, we picked her up, laid her on our makeshift changing table, aka ping pong table. She stayed asleep! Mission accomplished.

  • Full Sunday of activities

    30 Julai 2023, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☀️ 88 °F

Today after church we went to Fritz train restaurant downtown. The girls loved it. You place your order by making a phone call, then the hamburger order are delivered by train. The hamburger wasn’t that good, it was more for the atmosphere. There’s a Cho-Cho train that goes around near the ceiling and makes a loud whistle alarming the folks in the restaurants. Elizabeth, Annie and even 1 year old Amanda loved watching the train and hearing the train whistle blow. A win win.

We made a quick, trip to the new airport in hopes to see some planes, but the new terminal doesn’t have a place to see airplanes parked at the gate, unless you are inside security. I then texted Candace to see if our girls could play with her girls. She suggested a splash pad in Liberty, MO. So, we drove back to the house and I grabbed the girls’ swimming suits. We had a blast there. It was hot, but the girls cooled down, made some new friends and we shared the picnic table with a Mexican family there celebrating a kid’s birthday. They shared their cupcakes with the girls.

After swimming, I texted the Beuhlers to see if we could stop and visit them before heading to the. Shots house. We visited with Heather Hower too. Bob and Sharla are some welcoming and had just the right toys for the girls.

I changed the girls to their sleeping pjs and as soon as we got home, they went straight to bed. Their supper was all the snacks at the pool and donuts and bananas that Sharla fed them. They went fast to sleep. Tomorrow = traveling day back to Illinois.

  • Hannibal and Mississippi

    31 Julai 2023, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☁️ 84 °F

We had breakfast with Doug and Gloria Livingston. They loved how obedient the grand daughters were. They were good, especially since it was a Starbucks.

It rained most of the morning. Glenn stopped at auto zone to get some wipers but it was too expensive, so 100 miles down the road we bought some.

It cleared up as we pulled into Hannibal. We walked around and had a picnic with all the left over foods.

  • Returning home

    2 Ogos 2023, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ⛅ 102 °F

We left Ellen’s place around noon time, only to discover that I had one of Amanda’s outfits in my purse. Solution solved: we left it at the Dairy Queen snd Ellen picked it up the next day.

We got tired and pulled off in Mt Vernon, Illinois and decided to do our two afternoon Zoom calls from the hotel room. Rest and leave the next day. We had a good dinner also.

We pulled into Tyler around 6pm on Wednesday. We had driven through some hard rain most of the morning.

Our home seems to empty without the 3 little one’s running through. We are tired but feel blessed at the same time.

  • Day 3 Installation of new President

    14 September 2023, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ 🌙 66 °F

We had an unusual morning, as Glenn and I were on an co-Hort Zoom call with missionaries all over the world, (from Spain to South Africa, US and Egypt) as we were discussing the “sandwich years” of serving overseas and still ministering to your children and tending to your elderly parents.

At the same time, we received a text about mom having been confirmed of having shingles. Oh my. And being taken to Baylor hospital for treatment.

We also heard reports about the ministry in Africa, Asia and South America. I continue to meet and greet the retirees and hear their story.

I took.a good long nap and was rested up for the long evening, as it was the installation service for Phil O’Day. Phil graduated from Moody, lived in Mexico as a church planter and then was assigned to Dallas. He was very instrumental in the merging of Camino Global and Avant Ministries.

At the service, the former presidents of CAM and Avant participated. It was joyful, encouraging and God-honoring. The O’Day family sang and Phil spoke about his journey to this position. I believe all the missionaries are pleased with God’s appointment for Phil as president.
