Flying up to pick up Amanda

    August 15 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 90 °F

Thursday, I flew late in the afternoon up to Champaign Illinois. I had a quick layover in Dallas. I had a complimentary upgrade to first class on both legs. Ellen picked me up at CMI.

For Friday, Ellen and I did some errands. She had an appointment the dermatologist. Then we went to Olive Garden for lunch. A stop at Bath and Body for Ellen to get a free item.

We watched the final episode of “50 states in 50 Days” with Lucy and Elizabeth.

I stayed home in the afternoon to watch Amanda while everyone else was at a carnival up at the Fisher school

  • Flying First Class

    August 16 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 93 °F

Amanda and I had a complimentary upgrade to FIRST CLASS. Imagine being a 3 year old and sitting in those huge seats?

Amanda did well. I decided to check her car seat all the way to Tyler. She handled her orange juice great. Didn’t spill.

We had an hour layover at DFW so we rode the Skylink from Terminal B to Terminal D and then switched back to the other direction to get to our gate in Terminal B.

Since we had left Ellen’s home at 4:05am, Amanda was one tired cookie by 9:00am. She fell asleep before the DFW-TYR flight even took off.

Then we were the VERY last people to get off the airplane in Tyler. Yes, I broke my rule.

Glenn picked us up and we discussed how we could help Sarah pick up her new (pre-owned) RAV4 in Dallas. We drove directly to Dallas with a potty stop at Buc-eyes. It took a little bit longer than we were anticipating, but all’s ok.

We stopped by to see granddaddy at Juliet Fowler. Then Amanda fell asleep at 4:15 and slept all the way home. She was still asleep when we pulled into the driveway. We couldn’t leave her in the HOT car so carefully got her up She did eat supper, then got up in the chair and fell asleep.

  • Sunday church and bike riding

    August 17 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 93 °F

We went to Green Acres Church and it was Super Hero Day. Amanda fit right in.

We had a relaxing day after church. Good nap. She was asleep from 1-5pm

On Monday we went bike riding at a local park. Then breakfast at the park

Oscar and Cathy Arauco drove over to pick up the luggage that Glenn brought up a few days earlier.

We walked around the block and checked our mail. Amanda is a good little camper and is enjoying being spoiled by her Grammie and Grandad.

  • Fun Days with Grammie and GrandDad

    August 19 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 81 °F

The few days with Amanda flew by so quickly. I believe this has been the only time we have kept her to ourselves. She was very well behaved. We worked on using the word “please”.

We went bike riding again and then another park. Amanda ate all her food. And she took a good nap each day.

On Wednesday, we did have to wake her up as I had a MRI scheduled.

Amanda has a great memory. And she loves to do the same thing over and over. Each evening after dinner, bath, curled hair, we would walk around the block. Then she would say “granddad get your keys. Let’s get the mail”. She even remembers it’s 401.

It was a very relaxing 5 days filled with adventure of riding behind Glenn’s bicycle, watching Itchy Boots plus Darren and Susie’s YouTube videos. We made chocolate chip cookies, cooked hot dogs and went to Green Acres Church plus drove to see Granddaddy in Dallas. The highlight was the first class seats from Illinois all the way to Tyler.

  • Saying Goodbye

    August 21 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

Today, we woke up early to gather Amanda up and drive her up to Cracker Barrel for our connection point with Aunt Sarah. 7:00am

We got there early, so I took out Amanda’s curlers and put her hair up in 2 pig tails. We left her cute pjs on her.

Once Sarah and Claudia arrived, we switched out the car seat for Amanda to be behind Sarah.

And like that, she’s gone. We sure enjoyed our time with Amanda. She loved coming to Grammies house.
