  • Bob and Mary

    February 11, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 75 °F

We drove to minneola to where bob and Mary live. They’re in the AIM retirement community.

They lived in Mali and then in Malaga, Spain before retiring and continuing to volunteer up at Echo Ranch in Alaska.

When they first arrived in the African country of Mail, they had no running water or electricity. Their home was infested with termites. 9 months out of the year, they slept outside under mosquito netting - it was hot!

What a sweet couple. This past year, they’ve had some health challenges with fighting cancer.

So glad we got to meet and encourage them. True servants of the Lord!

Another retired missionary. Second marriage for both after their spouses died. Alan served many many years in Brazil.

He told us story after story of his medical ministry there. I can’t begin to tell you how the Lord had provided and protected him.

What a wonderful afternoon of meeting dear saints in the Lord.

Arlene showed us the doll house her dad made for her, (out of old cigar boxes) even down to the bed, mattress and refrigerator that open. What a gift.

  • Ralph

    February 13, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 48 °F

Meet Ralph. Serve a bucket load of years in Ecuador. He greeted us at the door and promptly set us down and started talking about the good old days. He thoughts were slow and deliberate. Ralph’s wife died several years ago and openly admitted that the last few years had taken a great toll on his health since he was the caregiver of his dementia’s wife. Ralph turned 96 yesterday.

We talked fast, exchanging facts and people we knew from GMU days and our history.

Ralph related stories of being in Ecuador among the head hunters. He also acknowledged God being sovereign but wondered why God allowed his brother to die of cancer at a young age of 36. They were very close.

Soon, his son and his wife dropped by to feed us lunch and again we were exchanging who knew who. We talked about what a wonderful time we’ll all have in heaven meeting up with others.

Ralph is a true servant of God. A precious retired servant of the Lord.

  • Day 4

February 17, 2023 in the United States

Today, we had a relaxing morning. Bill fixed waffles. Delicious.

We left around noon time to head towards the Coopers place. Glenn filled the car up with gas.

At the Coopers pavilion we just sat around and talked. Some played Bache -ball. Glenn played pickle ball with Kenny.

We’re at PBI, wondering if we’ll make our connection at DFW.

Summary, we had a relaxing and intense visit with our old SAM missionary friends. We’ve all gone down different paths and appreciate the friendship from the 80.’s and 90’s. We were forever saying “Remember when?” Or “Glenn I remember you meeting us at the airport with tickets” or “Remember getting stuck in the sand?” All in all, Bolivia2023 was G.R.E.A.T.

    Looking forward to next year.
