    My 50th HS reunion

    October 3 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 82 °F

After a routine bone density test in Tyler, we headed towards DAllas. We visited with Dad for a little bit, then Glenn dropped me off at a Ladies’ luncheon on Greenville Ave. There were about 20 gals I graduated from LH and about 6 guys that showed up. Becky Finklea and Cindy Spoonts were really the only 2 gals I knew from high school. The others were in my class but we never really hung out together. I had some great conversations with Robin Rowe, David Payne and Patty Tiffin.

After the lunch, Glenn and I headed over to the Raymer’s house to rest up before the big Homecoming Football game. I had reserved 2 tickets for the “party patio”. What a great experience to see the football game. The last time I was at a football game was in 1981 when LH won the 5A Texas state championship against Houston Yates down in the Astrodome.

We won handidly over Irvin McArther. It was 35 to 0 at halftime and then Glenn and I left at the beginning of the 3rd quarter. It was great to see Donna Strickenberger Brown there. She hasn’t changed. We saw Rick and family sitting in the stands below us.

  • 50th Class Reunion

    October 4 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 90 °F

    What a fun night!

    1975-2025

50 year class reunion from Lake Highlands High school.

I started attended in 4th & 5th grade at White Rock Elementary then 6th grade at Northlake followed by LHJS and LHHS for Jr and Sr high. Most of these friends attended ALL the way through school.

There were some big surprises. Like reconnecting with Molly Williams who asked me if I knew Kendon Wheeler from Guatemala when I told her we lived in Guatemala for 16 years. Well yes! Their son and Gary graduated together from SCCLC back in 2007. Molly said that she and Kendon are first cousins. Wow. Wow. Wow.

It was good to see Lisa Hendricks, Donna Strickenberger, David Payne, Cindy Spoonts, Wally Adams, Bill goad, Sharon Evertt, Karla Lovell, Dianna Fowler, Gary Dunn, Becky Finklea, John Proach , Patty Tiffin, Nancy Dinwiddie, Lisa Henrich, Sharon Einstein, David Rice, Greg Goebel, Deanna French, Michelle Smith, Susan Winborn, Jerry Vaughn, Craig Jarrell and oh so many others. There were a handful of folks that I never got to visit with on Saturday night however, I never really talked with them in highschool either. Yet some great conversations with others.

Some of these classmates I never had talked to before but we might have had a class together, sang in choir together or worked on a school project.

Most people looked the same except older, possibly fatter and of course grayer. I would say there were about 100-150 friends that showed up for the 50th reunion.

The venue was nice. The place was packed and the weather was perfect for this outdoor reunion.

When I would go up to speak to classmates that were total strangers, they would say, “I remember the name Judy Marr”and that’s it. However when I would mention my brother Rick Marr inevitable the classmate would say, “oh I remember Rickey Marr” then I would say, “yep, he’s grown up and would prefer just Rick Marr”

I graduated from a class just over 720 students . And I think I was number 145 give or take. When we graduated, we walked across the stage according to our ranking.

Someone posted the class picture and I actually found myself. Standing next to Lisa LeRouax and Logan Irvin.

We had some great conversation with lots of folks. I would ask:

Where did you go to college?
    Where do you live now?
And tell me about your grandkids.

We found several folks that do mission trips with their church, sent their kids to Pine Cove camp or are involved in their church.

It was times like this when I miss my mom. I would frequently go to class reunions and sit in the living room retelling who I reconnected with and mom would chime right in and add additional information of my childhood.

I’m thankful for growing up in a great Lake Highlands community, sharing experiences of church youth group, high school choir tours and competition plus living on a “circle street” growing up with Lisa, Pat and Donna.

I’m saddled to realize several classmates have passed away such as GiGi, Robin Rhodes and Betty Bass and (Donna’s husband) to name a few.

I still can’t believe I attended my 50th High school reunion. Where as the time gone? It makes you think that life is short and I must live it to the fullest serving the God my Savior. (By the way, October 4th is my spiritual birthday. 10-4-68)

  • 5 days of training

    October 8 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 72 °F

We flew out to Kansas City on Sunday morning. It was especially grateful to stay at Roger and Judy’s house the past 2 days for my 50th HS reunion activities.

Uber to DFW. We enjoyed The Club privileges before we took our 8am flight.

Our 5 days were full of training with our whole team of member care providers from all over the world. We had 2 1/2 days of training on Debriefing. Alberta is a specialists in debriefing missionaries for all situations. Like crisis management, trauma, losses in death, losses in change of assignment, loss in dreams, loss in family and jobs.

It was very helpful as we are member care providers for the missionary community. Since our main focus is with retirees, we come thru debriefing a little bit different.

Usually when we visit and take the retiree out for a meal we talk about their field experience, who were their friends on the field and any special events that define their time and ministry.

We learned helpful hints on how to listen and how to engage in the debriefing process.
