  • Change of plans - worth 2,000each

    June 6, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 79 °F

There was a group of gals from a volleyball team from Canada that had extra gear and stuff.

The plane was not over sold but over weight.

    They asked for volunteers. $600.00, $800.00, $1,000.00 $1,500.00 then $2,000 each.

    No brainer.

    God is good. Travel voucher.

Now we are driving to Houston to catch our 3:00pm flight! It’s 9:15am. Google says we’ll arrive at 12:26pm

  • Made it to IAH

    June 6, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 90 °F

    Parked at Comfort Suite.

    Called Uber.

Glenn repacked and made sure we only had carry-ons.

Made it through security by 12:45pm. To put it in perspective, we were at the gate in Shreveport getting our voucher at 8:23am and we had to reclaim our luggage, get our car out of remote parking, and drive to Houston airport. In the meantime, we realized we didn’t know the parking situation in IAH, so Glenn suggested that we call a hotel and park there and get an Uber ride. We made reservations for the hotel return on June 14. And we’ll probably see some friends in Houston on the return!

    Just another day of adventure!

  • At Gamboa Rainforest Reserve

    June 6, 2022, Golfo de Panamá ⋅ 🌧 79 °F

We arrived late Monday night. There were about 20 of us on the ac tour bus that took about 1.5 to get here.

Today was a relaxing day and glenn and I helped at the registration desk waiting for the rest of the 110 folks to arrive. I also took a nap.

It’s very hot and tropical here!

    June 8, 2022 in Panama ⋅ 🌧 81 °F

Natalie, Patricia, Glenn, Candace and Gabriela -we all took an excursion to the rainforest. We climbed 11 story platform to see over the trees and into the Panama canal. This was the section between the lake and Mira Flores locks.

The growth was thick, trees were tall and lots of thick growing vines. We saw a monkey and a Tuscan.

  • Last day at Gamboa Rainforest Resort

    June 13, 2022 in Panama ⋅ 🌧 82 °F

We’ve had an extravagant time with friends and co-workers at the Avant Ministries Latin America conference. About 120-150 folks were here.

Glenn and I ate breakfast each morning out on the patio. The food was delicious and the presentation was creative.

The speaker was from Houston and very good. Each morning after the sessions, we had informative time where we got caught up on finances, security and miscellaneous stuff.

Afternoons were free. On Thursday most of the group headed to the Mira Flores Locks at the Panama Canal, however, Glenn and I stayed back and enjoyed the pool.

We took the atrial tram and the Gatun Lake and monkey island excursion on Sunday. Fun. It rained most afternoon. Glenn would dump out a gallon of water from the dehumidifier unit in our hotel room each day.

There has been some sickness. One couple got Covid and couldn’t come even though they lived In Panama City and had hosted 2 other couples. Those two other couples are sick now. And also several others.

The US lifted the mandate that you have to be tested before flying. That’s good news.

We’ll be staying one more night near the airport.

Yesterday, AA cancelled their flight and so Glenn and I helped folks sort out the options. One couple can not leave until Wednesday.

All and all, we had a great time.

  • Tyler and Covid

    June 15, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 93 °F

We started our trip back to Tyler after my 8:30 ZOOM call with the Guatemala ladies.

Glenn wasn’t feeling well on the plane ride back to Houston-scratchy throat and feverish. He had a fever during the night. After taking a cold shower that helped a bit.

Today we drove on into Tyler. We had 2 Covid test here at the house. I went to Brookshire’s to purchase a thermometer and get “last minute” groceries for “just in case”.

The test came back positive. Glenn called Dr. Beets immediately and talked about some additional medication Glenn should take Paclovaid.

Glenn is a little feverish, (100) caugh a little, scratchy throat and his nose is running and is tired.

Dr Beets said for us to stay a part and to be quarantine for 5 days. Take the test again. Get plenty of rest.

Sadly, I had to call Linda Self and tell her that we couldn’t see them in a few days. She understood.

We hear now that about 30 folks were infected with Covid from the meetings in Panama. Several couple were flying over to Malaysia today for additional meetings and 3 couples had to cancel.

We know that if USA hadn’t lifted the international Covid testing to be lifted on Sunday, we could have gotten stuck in Panama. So glad we’re home and can recover her.
