    Yellowstone National Park

    Picnic lunch in Yellowstone, followed by a nice view of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

    It was hazy all day, and we had to leave from the western gate because Of a fire near Ol Faithful.

    Today was full and relaxing. We saw bison, deer, herd of elk, bald eagle, antelope, squirrel and old Faithful geezer!Leia mais

    We ran into good old friends from Texas at Cracker Barrel

    So we’ll spend the day with them at glacier national park.

    We ate at Saloon pizza.

    And we also boondocked for the first time at a Walmart parking lot. I slept pretty good. We bought some sand which supplies for lunch today.Leia mais

    Letterboxes and Crock-pot dinner

    After our 2 zoom calls this morning, Glenn and I headed out to do 3 letterboxes.

    The first letterbox was over by the yellow crane at the Hungry Horse Dam. As Glenn was returning the letterbox to the hidden spot, I noticed a guy following Glenn with his eyes. I immediately struck up a conversation with him and his traveling companion, “Do you know what letterboxing is all about?” After I explained the art of following the clues and hidden carved stamp and explaining our story of being locked out of Guatemala his reply was “No shit!” He repeatedly exclaimed, “no shit” when we pronounced that the Guatemala borders have been closed since March 18th and we are traveling in this used RV making the most of life.

    We found out that they were on their honeymoon and were suppose to be in Banff, Canada! I was so surprised that I said, “No shit!”...for the first time in my life. We assured them that it was beautiful. Matt and Melinda are from Elgin, Illinois.

    Next we followed clues to another letterbox which was at the old road entrance to Glacier National Park but is closed. Because there was a young couple there cooking out, I again had to explain myself. But this time I did not use the “S” word.

    We drove into GNP and crossed over a one lane bridge to see the lake from a different perspective. And we took the red chairs Karen gave us and had a light snack.

    On our way back to our home, we did our 3rd letterbox. While here, my dad called me with the sad news that Mr. Richard LeRouax had died. That makes 4 friends who have died just THIS week. I guess it’s that season of life. Glenn says that God is being good to them, getting them out of this troubled world before they have to suffer any more.

    We came home to a crockpot meal that I started this morning. Glenn and I ate at the picnic table. A delicious end to a fun day.    Leia mais

    Divine appointments

    Today we had a long Member Care Zoom call with folks living in Germany, Canada, Panama, Spain and US. This is a twice a month call and normally they ask, “Where are the Stewarts today?”

    We had to move to a different slot here at the Mountain Meadows RV park. Very nice. Wooded and small pond. The showers are hot and good pressure.

    We grabbed lunch to go from A&W Rootbeer. We enjoyed a picnic lunch out on lake near Hungry Horse Dam road.

    After lunch we drove up past the dam and pulled off the look-out. I noticed a Texas license plate with Sewell Cadillac. As I approached the couple I said “Dallas or Fort Worth?” Their reply was “neither, Southlake!”

    We continued talking. I mentioned Guatemala and they mentioned Rio Hondo. I knew immediately that they must have been a part of Northwest Bible Church.

    Sure enough, they have worshipped at NBC. They know mutual friends, the Binions and several others.

    SMALL WORLD...BIG FAMILY!

    After a much needed nap, Glenn and I joined Brad and Connie Meeder for dinner. Glenn had noticed that they had posted a picture yesterday at Glacier National Park. Who would have thought we would have met up here? Brad and I served on the moody alumni board together back in the 2000’s. We have run into them frequently when Brad has a layover in Guatemala City or in Chicago at MBI and sometimes when Brad is working at the Simulators at AA.

    Old friends and “oh you didn’t hear?”

    On Saturday, we reconnected with Alvin and Laurie Thompson at their home just 15 minutes where we set up camp.

    We got caught up with their kids, parents and new active retired ministry.

    As I was relaxing and going to bed, I zipped off a quick email to Sue Brunemeier, a long lost friend from Cochabamba who lives in Spokane. (When we were in Spokane back in 2005 and we forgot to call Mark and Sue up, I made a mental note to myself to remember).

    This morning when I checked my email, sure enough there was an email from Sue. She suggested a Denny’s off of I 90 on our way to Seattle.

    We had to load the Scion in the Fred Myers’s parking after Glenn filled Magnolia up with gas (Kroger).

    As Sue was sitting down, I asked where Mark was and her reply instantly drummed up tears and complete shock to my face. “oh you didn’t hear? He died of instant heart attack just over a year ago.”

    For the next hour we talked about his untimely death, emotional and support system and old friends from NTM and SAMAir days in Bolivia.

    It was very emotional to spend breakfast with Sue and learn at the same time of his death and heart attack. It made me realize that “our days are numbered” and to be thankful for the 40+ years I’m enjoying with Glenn

    Bird Watching

    We were heading to Canon Beach on the Pacific coast but the traffic was challenging since the I 5 bridge was closed, so we chose to drive 25 minutes up the interstate to a state park. One lane road over the canal and RR tracts to marsh lands.

    We returned back to the RV and had a picnic inside. Very very Smokey today.    Leia mais

    Oregon Trail

    Remember the game Oregon Trail where you left from Independence Missouri with wagon, food and supplies? I don’t believe I ever made it to Oregon City alive. I died of some disease. That was a fun game the Stewart kids enjoyed back in the 90’s. Was it on a floppy disk?

    It was fun to go through the exhibits-wish we had more time.

    Natalie’s grandparents, MAF & Bynums

    We stayed Sunday night in Nampa, Idaho boondocking at the Bynum’s home. We served together in Bolivia. Their daughter would babysit and son Aaron was in Ellen’s class. Kathy also gave our girl’s piano lessons. It was fun to see them.

    Monday, we stopped in at the MAF headquarters and got a quick tour. Gene Jordan gave us a tour (his parents would come frequently to Bible Memory Association Camp back in the 70’s. I had fond memories of them). We also met up with Brian who attended Moody with me. His wife, Connie and I graduated together.)

    We then continued on to Natalie’s grandparents! What gems! Natalie works with us in Guatemala.    Leia mais
