• Ballard Locks and Bongos

Busy day in Seattle. We hiked in the Washington Park Arboretum UW Botanic Gardens and the Japanese garden nearby. Then headed over to the Ballard Chittenden Locks. (https://www.ballardlocks.org/) Lilly met us at the Locks. I didn't realize how interested they would be in seeing how the Locks worked. I guess since I'd seen them before I already knew. We spent at least an hour or two watching boats go each way through the Locks. The funniest moment was when Jan said "It will fill up really fast" thinking that they would just open the gates and let a tsunami of water flood into the Lock. I couldn't help but laugh as the image kept erupting in my mind.

Then we walked around the gardens too. The salmon ladder was closed as they are upgrading.

That night Jan and I went out to eat at Bongos, a Caribbean restaurant Heather and Josh recommended. (http://www.bongosseattle.com/) . The food was excellent and we had a great time sitting at the group table and chatting with some interesting people. That's the one thing I love about traveling with her, is that she seems to meet people so easily.
