St Nicolaasga naar Medemblik

Today's ride was a classic Friesian ride with canals, pont crossings, tall ships, Friesian tjalks and Frisian cows. The target was to reach Stavoren at lunch time to catch the ferry across the IJsselmeer at 14:35. With a fair bit of wind against the average speed dropped a bit but good progress was made and after 28k we got to our coffee stop the cafe de Kuilart on the Johan Friso kanaal. We had great views and more appeltaart and oranje koek which was in fact pink! After another 40k or so we reached Stavoren in plenty of time. The cabin on the quay side served us with traditional 'kibbeling en friet' another food item on Amanda's tick list done! The trip across the IJsselmeer was like a Caribbean cruise with full sun shine and drinks served on deck. The IJsselmeer was created out of the Zuiderzee between 1929 and 1964 because of the threat by the North Sea on the coastline around the Zuiderzee. Some of the land was reclaimed and 3 polders were created. The IJsselmeer is a very popular watersport attraction for many boaters and other watersports. The great views of Medemblik welcomed us ashore and we cycled another 20k to Enkhuizen to our overnight camp.En savoir plus
