Up bright and early for our 10:30am flight. Uber at 8:30 and 50 minutes later we arrive at T2 Domestic. A long wait in the Bag Drop Queue and we were thru.
No time for a coffee - so we dumped them in the bin and were one of the last onto our flight.
Glad we left early or we may have missed it totally!
Uneventful (except for Hattie's screaming) 3 hour flight - with lovely views of Uluru and Kata Tjuta just before we landed.
Picked up our 4WD Toyota Prado and off to Emu Walk Apartments for our 4 night stay.
Fortunately the 2 bedroom apartment was up to Kim's stringent standards.
Soupy visited the local bottlO to find out he was limited to a 6 pack of beer and a bottle of wine "shit - this won't last long!" - and it only cost $66.

  • Field of Lights Dinner and Viewing

    February 21, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 35 °C

Kim and I were off to the "Field of Light" at 6.30pm.
We had drinks at a lookout (with Ann, Kevin, Bonnie and Bruce) where we viewed Uluru and the sunset over Kata Tjuta.
Many drinks, a great buffet dinner and desert and 3 hours later we were let loose on the Field of Light. 50,000 lights like poppies protruding from the red soil. They all gradually change colour.
Kristy, Matt and Hattie stayed home and had dinner in - it will be their turn tomorrow night.

  • Uluru on 2 Wheels

    February 22, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Another early morning and our first venture into Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park.
A quick bicycle indoctrination by a very friendly local (Lehi) and we were off - circling the rock anticlockwise.
This is a fantastic way to view Uluru - highly recommended. The route is flat. Take a large bottle of water as the water tanks en route host virtually impalatable H2O. It took us about 2.5 hours to navigate the 15km ride. Many photo stops and we will be back tomorrow to venture into the 2 gorges.
We then drove around Uluru - there are some great photo opportunities just that little further from the track around it.

  • Sunrise

    February 23, 2018 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

Woke up early - and went for a walk. Could not find a spot in the resort to view the sunrise - so walked up to Imalung Lookout (dodging snakes on the way there!). It was worth the walk.

  • Kata Tjuta - Walpa Gorge

    February 23, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Happy Birthday Soup! Nice early morning drive to Kata Tjuta for a walk into the Walpa Gorge. Hattie was in form and entertained us. We were going to walk the Valley of the Winds - but it got a bit late (and hot).Read more

    February 23, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

On the way back we stopped at the Kata Tjuta Viewing Point - and we had a friend. If we had been a few minutes earlier the Eastern Brown Snake was up on the viewing platform! I am sure Hattie would have loved a new friend.Read more

  • Kings Canyon

    February 24, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 5 °C

Up very early for our 350km drive to Kings Canyon. Stopped for a coffee and muffin at a quaint roadhouse near Kings Canyon. We had no choice - the Rim Walk was closed (we were too late). As it turned out we were happy we did the shorter "South Wall Return" walk. It was challenging to say the least - and with the heat, we were all happy to find the air conditioned haven of the Prado at the end.Read more
