Arriving in Banda Aceh

Almost a year after having planned this trip (and unfortunately without my friend Päm) I finally made it to Aceh. My first stop was Banda Aceh. The grab driver that picked me up at the hotel was so Czytaj więcej
Visiting Masjit Raya Baiturrahman

Masjit Raya Baiturrahman is the most famous landmark of Banda Aceh. This reason for this is not its undeniable beauty and originality (no other mosque in Indonesia looks like this) but the sad fame it Czytaj więcej

Enjoying the afternoon

After leaving the mosque we went to the well-known Tsunami museum where one learns about the causes and effects of the Vulcano eruption that caused the tsunami. Afterwards we took a break at a roof Czytaj więcej
Evening drive

My driver Putra later took me on a drive along the coast. On the way there I had the chance to capture some Banda Aceh daily life along the river.
The evening is coming to an end

Watched the sunset over the ocean then had some soto ayam at a local warung.
What a lovely day!
Enjoying Banda Aceh

The next morning, after a hearty breakfast, Putra took me to a viewpoint and to the beach close to Banda Aceh. I really fell in love with the place and I'm seriously hoping to be back.
Driving around Banda Aceh

After enjoying the nice view with Pulau Weh in the background, we went to a harbour where I got introduced to Aceh style fishing boats. Afterwards we went to see one of the most important landmarks - Czytaj więcej
Back at the roof top café

Back at my favorite place in Aceh, back for a matcha Latte and some dim sum. Yummy!
Arriving in Pulau Weh

The fast boat only took about 45 minutes...after a 20 minute car ride I arrived at the famous "Freddie's Santai Sumurtiga". The view and the colours were simply breath taking. I'd been dreaming of Czytaj więcej
Settling in

Freddie's definately a good place to work... and to relax. Changed my bungalow to have more privacy and a hammock. Then later rented a motor bike and explored Sabang.
Exploring Sabang

The coast line between Sabang and Freddie's is definately worth exploring.
Enjoying the sunset

Found a cute little beach and a cute little warum on top of the cliffs.. managed to get back before it got too dark.
Exploring the West of the island

My resort organized a becak driver to take me to Gabang beach in the West of the island where all of the dive centers are. I didn't realize how far that was but really enjoyed the ride despite the Czytaj więcej
Bubble Addicts

The dive center Bubble Addicts had been recommended to me by Melina and Felix and I wasn't disappointed. Yann and Fauzi were lovely people and experienced divers and we did indeed have a great time! I Czytaj więcej
First Dive

It wasn't the most spectacular dive but I really enjoyed it anyways. The current was quite strong and I always enjoy that!
Second dive

Second day diving

Next day, first dive, unfortunatley without Nindy who had returned to Banda Aceh and Fauzi who wasn't feeling well...
Second day diving

The second dive that day was another fun drift dive and the coolest thing I saw was an octupus. This was my first real sighting and I couldn't stop watching. Unfortunately the pictures I took are not Czytaj więcej
Back at Freddie's

Went for a walk, enjoyed the sun and had a yummy dinner.
Quiet work day at Freddie's

Enjoyed the view while working, the nicest thing being Yann and Fauzi visiting for a few beers...
Working and chilling

Spend most of the day working, also taking part in a PQM workshop. But took enough breaks in my hammock to continue reading "The Shadow King".
Exploring the environment

Went for a little walk enjoying the countryside. Watched a worker in a local brick making place at work.
Casa Nero

Walked a bit to check out another little resort, Casa Nero, which is also quite nice but very different.
Sabang harbour

On Saturday I went on a tour of the island, again with Pak Hanif and his becak. We started of at Sabang harbour.
