Arriving in Chiang Mai

I left Jakarta on Wednesday, early in the morning and arrived in Chiang Mai at around 2 pm. This way I had enough time to do some sight seeing that day and to meet some of my colleagues from the other German schools of Regions 14 and 15. The hotel we were booked into and where we worked during the day was of average quality, however the lunch buffet was really good and the hotel was also in the centre - close to the old city which made it easy for us to explore the city after work.Leggi altro

Visiting Wat Phra That Doi Suthep

Having arrived at the hotel together with my colleague Marco who is the PQM coordinator of the German school in Shanghai, we decided to head to the famous temple Wat Phra That Doi Suthep which is about an hour away from the center of Chiang Mai. I had last been there in 2001 on my first trip to Thailand, but I didn't really remember anything apart from the long stairs uphill. We also met Denise who had flown in from Sydney whom I already knew from the preparation seminar in Bonn in 2017. It was awesome to see her again!Leggi altro

Exploring Chiang Mai by night

Chiang Mai is well-known for its street vendors, night markets, yummy street food and massage parlours. It's become increadibly touristy since 2004, so I hardly recognized the place, but I still really like it. It's easy to get around as you can do a lot on foot or you can take a tuk tuk. It's a good place to visit just before Christmas... My suitecase was full of presents on my way back.Leggi altro

All work no play?

Most of the 3 days we worked in Chiang Mai we stayed in our conference room which didn't have any windows and which was cooled down to about 15° degrees. It was really great to meet people who struggle with the same tasks and challenges as I and I got a lot of help, advice and inspiration. On Friday we visitied the German school of Chiang Mai which reminded me a lot of the DSJ although it is much smaller and even more remote.Leggi altro

Exploring Chiang Mai at night

It was Friday night and although we were going to start working at 9 am the next morning, some of us headed off to see more of Chiang Mai's various attractions.

Tired as we were from travelling and working we still had some energy left to look for a place to party. Since we didn't really find a place, we just took over one of these dogdy bars with lady boys and strange white customers. But that was long after we had dinner of course ;-)Leggi altro

Shopping tour

Temples, temples, temples

I spent the afternoon visiting some of the beautiful temples of Chiang Mai. I was really surprised, because I hardly recognized anything, but I guess considering the fact that I had last seen thoses places 15 years ago, that's quite normal.Leggi altro

Wat Phra Dhammakaya

It took me some time to find out what this building close to Dong Mueang Airport in Bangkok was, but I finally got lucky. It is one of the largest Buddhist temples in the world and the largest meditation center. It does look like a place to attrack Aliens though...Leggi altro
