    Milano - #1

    Dec 15–20, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 1 °C

Spent the morning looking for a warm jacket with the girls and other shopping.
The sun was shining and Milano wasn't too busy so it was not stressful. It was a good way to fight jetlag and the girls enjoyed trying on lots of different outfits.Read more

  • Milano #2

    December 17, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

Today we split up. I caught the fast train to Firenze to visit my friend, Federica. Vins and the girls stayed in Milano and tried their luck at ice skating and shopping (again!).

  • Milano #3

    December 18, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

Today was a social day - not as much fun for the girls - but lovely for me.
We took the morning slowly, having a late breakfast in the hotel while Vins left at 730 for a work trip to Sardegna.
The day then included catching up with my dear friend, Federico, who is the director of the print version of Italian Vogue. The girls were initially very chuffed but then bored when they realised that famous people don't just hang out in Vogue.
We dragged ourselves back to the hotel for a rest in the afternoon then I did some exploring on my own before Amy and I went to hang with Franci and her son, Giovanni. Then at dinner Vins and I met up with Ginevra and Il mercato centrale for a fantastic Spaghetti con le vongole.

  • Milano #4

    December 19, 2024 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 6 °C

The day started rainy and we knew it would stay that way. We began with some more shopping - Amy had her eye on a dress that she wanted to try on. So we headed into town before the crowds and spent a morning under the drizzling rain.
The afternoon was dedicated to resting before we headed to San Siro to watch Inter play Udinese in the Coppa Italia - Amy's first Italian soccer match. ⬛🟦

  • Milano #5 ✈️ Trani #1

    December 20, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Our last day in Milano for this trip and not a moment too soon: Christmas traffic and general Milan grumpiness meant that our hotel room was surrounded by honking cars that pushed all of our neurodiverse buttons (Milanese are very aggressive honkers).
We had a quick morning catch up with Marco and Cristina before packing and flying out of Linate for Bari.
Ironically, we left sunny Milan and found grey, wet Bari.
In Trani I found small joys in my phone remembering the wifi password and connecting to wifi automatically, after a week of being reminded to connect to hotel wifi.
We wandered the town a little in search of some local friends and enjoyed the lights and nativity scenes before heading for dinner at Il Melograno for some fish!

  • Trani #2

    December 21, 2024 in Italy ⋅ 🌬 11 °C

Today was "family reunion" day with time spent with Nonna Anna, Zio Bob e Zia Pia and Cousin Michi and our brand new little cugina, Matilde. Luckily, the sun was shining. 🌞

  • Trani #3

    December 22, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

Nothing surprising happening here: food, friends, family, and sunshine. What did you expect, after all?

Lots of opportunities for speaking Italian for the girls though.

  • Trani #4

    December 24, 2024 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 6 °C

Christmas Eve was all about preparations and people.
We spent the morning doing last minute food shopping then preparing panzerotti all together for lunch.
After lunch it was time to prep more food for dinner and do some more socialising.
    Merry Christmas to you all!

  • Trani #6

    December 26, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

26 December is Santo Stefano in Italia which means the name day of Stefania. Hence, another day of eating and loud relatives.
We made over 3 kg of fresh pasta by hand and ate Graziano's award-winning panettone.

Tomorrow things will be back to "normality"...

  • Trani #7

    December 27, 2024 in Italy ⋅ 🌙 8 °C

Today was a lovely sunny day and we spent it recovering from 4 days of eating with a walk through the port to the Duomo of Trani with Stefania and Graziano and Micol and Marco.

  • Noha #1

    December 30, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

We travelled 250km south to the town where Stefania and Graziano live to spend a few days and celebrate New Years.
Today we visited Lecce, the Baroque capital of Italy also known as the Firenze del Sud. The sky was blue and the sun was shining and what a perfect day it was.
We then spent a relaxing evening hanging with Stefania and Graziano, generally enjoying sharing some time with them, reminiscing and catching up on the little details. As well as drinking Grappa.

  • Noha #2 - NYE

    December 31, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 6 °C

This day was dedicated to preparing for New Year's Eve and satisfying the prerequisites of two demanding chefs (Vins and Graziano!!).
We enjoyed a lovely meal with Graziano's family then lit fireworks which were louder and scarier than anything we were used to.Read more

  • Noha #3 - New Years Day

    January 1, 2025 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

After a lazy morning, which included a lovely walk around Galatina (Amy and Michelle slept in instead) we then enjoyed a lovely lunch with Graziano's family at his parents little "farmhouse". The girls had a great time playing with cats and a puppy and meeting new cousins.
We ate more food than I thought possible then spent the evening chatting with Stefy and Graziano.

  • Alberobello #1

    January 2, 2025 in Italy ⋅ 🌙 8 °C

We left Noha in the morning after we all popped into the local hairdresser for a quick blow-dry.
Our next stop was Alberobello before returning to Trani. It's my 4th time visiting in 30 years and the Trulli never change but their charm does increase as I age.Read more

  • Trani #8

    January 7, 2025 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

It's been a busy few days since we got back to Trani. Lots of catching up with friends and recovering from the general hubbub of Christmas and New Year's Eve.
Now that I think of it, we had Matilde's baptism and then the befana came on the 6th so there really wasn't much time for resting.
School started again for children in Italy today so routines are back to normal for most people - except us.
Only 5 days left until we fly out.

  • Trani to Singapore

    Jan 8–14, 2025 in Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

So, it's interesting how quickly we become accustomed to change. The last week flew by but not so many photos were taken.
We caught up with lots of family, celebrated my 51st birthday and brought Nonna on her first ever continental flight.
A 3-night stopover in Singapore at the Village Hotel on Sentosa makes all the difference as we return to Australia.
