Kids are Gone & Plans for Another Week

The house that we had rented in Lagoa, Casa do Atlantico, now seems awfully big and empty. One car less and no flurry of activity. We had had a great time with our family but it was time to move on. But where?

In all my planning, I had left the next part of our trip free. Originally, we were going to fly to three other islands in the Azores (Faial, Pico and Sao Jorge), but after being here for a week we wanted to do a lot more exploring on this pretty island of Sao Miguel. We decided to stay here until we headed back to Lisbon for a week.

It is the low season here and we have a car, so finding a place to stay shouldn’t be hard to do. But there are so many beautiful places. Where would we want to spend a week. On the ocean where we have been and near the city? in the city? Near the hot springs? On the north side? West side? East side? Every place has it pros and cons and all are beautiful. Hmmmn

Well, temporarily, we decided to stay for a few days in the same area. We found a small studio apartment halfway between Ponta Delgada and Lagoa in an area called Sao Roque. It’ll do for a few days. We are 10 meters from the ocean and can hear the waves and hourly church bells. Wind surfers, sailboats, birds, cruise ships, fishing boats, and parasailors are very entertaining to watch as they pass by. And we definitely have the best view of them. Actually when we sit on our porch, it feels like we are on a cruise ship as the waves are below us. It is a small place that has everything we need, including a washing machine. The best steakhouse on the island is around the corner and ... there is a Mexican restaurant down the street that we may have to try out!

The final place that we will be in is a BnB, 6 km north of the airport. It looks like it is a lovely country property close to hiking trails (and a golf course) and it is pretty well right in the middle of the island. A good home base for 6 days.もっと詳しく
