Abort mission volcan de Acatenango

We had booked on to climb Volcan de Acatenango with Wicho and Charlie. Unfortunately the morning before our hike (Wednesday at 2:30am) there was a larger than normal eruption causing a forest fire and people had to be evacuated off the volcano in the middle of the night.
We were told on Wednesday evening our hike on the Thursday would be going ahead.

We got to the camp store Thursday morning, ready to check in and get going. We finally get on the bus and hit road blocks from protesters. 3.5 hours later (normally a 45 minutes drive) we were still not at the bottom of the hike and it was called off by the government as wind picked up and restarted the forest fires.Weiterlesen
