  • Gator tour

    September 19, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

We took a gator tour with a company called Cajun encounters. We did tours where they pick you up from your hotel in New Orleans or you drive to the swamp.
We had an hour and a half boat tour around Honey Island swamp which is one of the most videographed swamps and used in a Disney movie (I don't remember which now).

On the tour we got to see loads of alligators and a tree full of raccoons.

  • Camp #8

    September 19, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Campsite #8. I can't believe how cheap this was. $12 with toilets (that were blocked or covered in moths), showers and electric hookup!
Shame that we're on a swamp so the mosquitos came out in force!
But right next to the site (and over the swamp) was this bridge where we took a few drone shots (with what was left in the drone battery)

  • Buc-cees servo

    September 21, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Buc-cees are some of the largest service stations in the world. This one doesn't hold the record. But it was pretty huge with loads of petrol pumps (I used pump 34), bbq meat being cooked up as well as even a nut station!Read more

  • Austin - bbq food

    September 21, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 34 °C

The BBQ food restaurant I wanted to go to had sold out by the time we got into Austin, so this BBQ food van was around the corner to serve us up some food before checking into our motel

  • Motel Super 8

    September 21, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 34 °C

Another Motel stop to allow us some nice showers, etc.
This motel is much nicer than last nights in Houston (I forgot to put a pin in / take any photos)
We even have a pool view from our room 😂

  • 🦇 🌉 Austin bat bridge

    September 21, 2022 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 31 °C

    🎶 Like a bat outta hell... 🎶
No sign of Ozzy Osborne either.

Austin's number one tourist attraction is this bridge where thousands of bat's fly out after sunset.

I saw it before back in 2019 and really wanted Laura to experience it. So I dragged her down and we've been standing for an hour and a half so far and no bat's 😬

    But they will come. Right?
    They didn't come...

  • Texas State Tubes

    September 22, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 34 °C

    We went tubing in Texas!
It was 38c outside, so it was really nice to se in the water today.
We saw loads of wild life. Loads of dragonflies, birds, butterfly's and turtles! I didn't expect to see turtles, but we saw loads of them oh and a squirrel.
Great fun, going down the river for 3 and a bit hours with a lift back to the start.
And yes we got to pick our own tubes and both went for the pinky/purple colour.
Being a Thursday it really wasn't busy, which was great fun!

  • Camp #9

    September 23, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

    Camp #9.
    We saw an armadillo!
Laura cooked us dinner and loads of the wax from candle we caught on fire came out the stove!
This camp site is an international dark sky association park, so we're hoping for some bright stars out tonight!
The first little gas cylinder we bought (1lb cylinder) ran out tonight. But we did have spare so dinner was made.

  • Camp #10 - It's a marathon, not a sprint

    September 24, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

    Camp site número diez!
This camp site is in the small town of Marathon, Texas which has just under 400 residence.
It's meant to be one of the darkest spots in the lower 48 states, so let's see what stars we see tonight. Although there is a Mexican 15th party being setup with the world's largest speaker systems.Read more

  • Marathon Brew House

    September 24, 2022 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 27 °C

In this small little town, there was a BBQ restaurant and brewery. After spending some time in large cities where it was costing $20 for two drinks, it was refreshing to get two beers for $10 (oh and some BBQ food as well, it is Texas after all)Read more

  • Camp #11 - Big Bend Cottonwood

    September 25, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 35 °C

Camp #11 in Big Bend. Cottonwood camp ground.
This camp ground was super quiet. 24 spots. Only 2 of us on it (and it was "full")
Right next to the Rio Grande. Watching the sunset behind Mexico.
James cooked, Laura played with her camera settings ready to take some photos of the stars. Tonight was a New Moon so perfect for taking photos of the night sky.
However lots of bugs were around. Find the photo of Laura who is covered in deet holding a citronella candle whilst next to a bug zapper

  • The Rio Grande

    September 26, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

A collection of photos taken at various points along the Rio Grande yesterday (25th and today 26th).

It's really fast flowing and we saw a kayaker towing a canoe and he was going at some pace!

  • Camp #12 - Rio Grande Campground

    September 26, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Rio Grande Campground within Big Bend National Park.
Sometimes we don't get it right first time. I reversed the truck onto our pitch, but the wind was making the rain fly on the tent flap about a lot. So I reversed it out and turned it around.
I did a "pallea" inspired rice dish, as I couldn't find half the ingredients I needed in Walmart (no paella rice, but a box of "Spanish style rice" and no chorizo, so pepperoni instead) and then on our walk to start the sunset hike we saw these Javelina's (small hog type things)

  • Sunset on the Rio Grande Village trail

    September 26, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

We bumped into an English woman whose lived in the US for 35 years and she was looking for people to join her on a sunset hike from the camp ground. This short hike takes you to an epic lookout where you can watch the sunset. Well worth the short 10 or so minute walk up if you're staying at the camp site.Read more

  • Camp #13 Chisos Basis Big Bend

    September 27, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Our final camp site in Big Bend National Park.
This is the Basin where it rained on us yesterday. Looks like we have a much better day for it weather wise!
Although we saw our first wild tarantula 🕷️as soon as we got here and have been warned that the black bears aren't a problem, it's the rattle snakes and skunks we need to keep an eye out for.
Oh and a black bear walked right past us and our camp whilst our backs were turned
